The van groaned as it shot up with another bump in the road. Everyone in the car groaned aside from Texas, who kept her bicolored eyes on the path ahead. The moonlight shined on the horizon, an opposite of the blazing sun at dawn. It was a faint whisper of what it was before when they'd left in the evening. The sunshine was on its way just as they were. Lappland felt her own eyes wanting to drift shut as the hours wore on, but she forced them to stay open, the instincts in her telling her to stay at the ready.

Showing up groggy to a fight would hardly do.

"Ugh, Texas I know this is all terrain but could you be a little less all over the place. I can't get some decent sleep if my head keeps banging into a wall," Croissant said, blinking tiredly.

Exusiai yawned, stretching her arms. In the front seat the angel had the most space to curl up and conk out. Her vector gun sat poised in her lap. The safety was on though it was hard to tell with the blanket covering most of it. The halo Exusiai always had glowed brightly. Even sleep didn't make it go dim. She wondered if it ever would. Angels would be terrible hunters. I'd see her from a mile away.

"Sorry, but I can't make any promises. The more time we waste the more time the enemies have to kill Frostleaf and the others."

A pocky stick was poking out of Texas's gritted teeth, the sweet chocolate chomped down bit by bit. Texas's lips were chapped as usual, barely moving even when she spoke those terse sentences. The longer she stared at them the more she wanted to meet them with her own, meld with Texas until neither of them knew where one ended and the other began. When they first started dating it was a past time they participated in almost daily. Young and in love, trying to find how they fit in the other's life. Things were so much simpler then.

"We know Texas. But what good will this speedy driving do if someone gets hurt in the process?" Exusiai murmured.

"No ones going to get hurt," Texas said pointedly. "The van's made to be as safe as possible, and all our weapons are carefully stored."

Lappland resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Someone's not connecting the dots. "She wasn't talking about the van Tex. Last I checked the people inside are still very capable of being hurt the more you jerk around on the road."

"Uh she might not like—" Sora began, only to get cut off.

Texas sighed. "No. She's right. I probably should drive more carefully. I guess I'm just anxious is all."

Her admittance reminded Lappland once more just how many new experiences Texas had been through without her over the recent years. The missing gap in their shared lifespan left her feeling things she'd rather not think about. Because once she did, the hollowness in her heart was no better than a gaping canyon. And ever since becoming Infected the void was near impossible to deal with. At least with Texas beside her it hadn't been so lonely, but with the absence of the dark haired wolf came an expansion of loneliness, a bleak reality she only had herself to blame.

"How do you know Frostleaf Texas?" Croissant asked. She seemed to sense the tension in the air, red hair curling around her horns, messier then the norm. The atmosphere relaxed slightly as the car hummed gently. They weren't shooting across the road anymore so she supposed it was a win.

"I don't really know her. Not that well anyways. She just seemed like a nice person from the conversations we had during work. Doctor called her dependable. I think Y/N was right about that. Always saying those things at the most random times that Doctor." Texas was shaking her head. Her eyes looked tired but there was an amusement to them.
