One year has passed since their 1st year days. Ennoshita bacame the new captain of the volleyball team. Kageyama and Hinata had got much closer than before. Maybe too much so for the bubbly orange haired boy.

He had never realized what he was feeling until he started to feel a tingling in his lungs. He proceeds to cough out his first red petal.

Days passed, turning into weeks, which turned into months. The time came when he would cough out whole flowers. They were beautiful, just like him.

Hinata refused to seek help nor to tell anyone about his situation. The boy knew he could easily get himself cured with surgery but– he didn't want to. He found it better to die than to live knowing he'll never love the raven haired setter again. He didn't want to tell him about it either. He knew it would affect the other boy's volleyball games so he never said a word.

It hurt, it hindered his volleyball training, it was excruciating but, he stayed through. There were times where he had to vomit a lot of the flowers out before a match so that he could have a good few hours until he would have to let it out again. It was tiring but he didn't seem to care.

The first to find out was Suga, during the 3rd years graduation. The volleyball team cheered them on as they went down the stage. Hinata had to cough so he rushed into the bathroom. Suga just so happened to follow him there since he had to wash his hands from Tanaka's weird ketchup prank.

And there he saw it. The small boy, tearing up as he practically vomited out red carnations. He was in shock, his underclassman whom he treated like a little brother– or son at that matter, was coughing out bloody flowers  into the sink.

The senior knew exactly what Hinata was suffering from for he knew a few people who had gone through it. Hinata saw his senpai, who had his hands covering his mouth in shock as he rushed towards him. The short boy was pulled into a hug, tears trickling down his cheeks.

It was a beautiful yet heartbreaking moment.

The next to know was Daichi. Hinata had agreed to tell his former captain, with the convincing of Suga.

Up until now, the two are the only people who knew. They both supported the boy's decisions and wished him best as they went off to college.

And finally, the present. Hinata had just started his school days as a 2nd year and was in the final stage of the Hanahaki disease. All that ever came out were fully grown flowers.

Then came the day where he knew he would die. He wrote letters, to every single one of his friends and family. Kageyama's letter was the longest and even had an extra . It was an early Monday morning and he and Kageyama had just finished their usual race to the gym.

They entered and most of the others were already there, no 1st years have signed up yet so it was just the same old. Hinata headed up to the clubroom and discreetly placed each corresponding letters in each bag. Kageyama got curious and followed a few minutes later.

He opened the door to see the small orange haired boy, trying to open his bag.

"OI BOKE! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!"

He shouted which made Hinata turn to look at him. All the boy did was force a smile as tears formed in his eyes. He outstretched his arms, a box in hand as he waits for Kageyama to accept it.

The setter takes the box and opens it, revealing a lot of red carnations, varying from lighter shade to a darker one; with a letter nested in the middle of it all. The flowers were still fresh and some had dark red blots, which made Kageyama wonder.

"... Where did you get these flowe-"

He was cut off with a cough. He looks up at Hinata, who was covering his mouth as he continued to cough. He removes his hands revealing a new flower, some of it's petals tainted with blood.

Kageyama stared in horror. The smaller boy just smiled as he spoke.

"Read the letter"

He hesitantly opens the letter and begins reading it, Hinata watched him as he himself struggled to keep his smile on.

As Kageyama reached the end of the letter, he looked back at Hinata to find himself getting pulled into a kiss. It was a quick and messy one but nonetheless, it was a kiss. Hinata gave him one last smile as he fell to the ground, violently coughing out flowers.

And there he layed, on the floor of the clubroom, surrounded by a pool of flowers. And Kageyama, who kneeled beside him as he cried his heart out. Tanaka came back to the clubroom, worried since the two hadn't came back yet and started crying as soon as he saw his lifeless friend.

Soon enough, the whole volleyball team had gathered there. They found the letters in their bags and read them one by one. It resulted to even more crying. Nishinoya proceeded to call their former seniors, sniffling throughout the calls. Even Tsukishima had ended up shedding a few tears, although he would quickly wipe them away.

Hinata's funeral was held the following week, a lot of people attended. Everyone, but Kageyama.

The setter was at home, locked up in his room, crying under his bedsheets. He was holding the letter his best friend had given him. He still couldn't believe it. Hinata, the sunshine of the team, was gone. And most importantly, that ray of sunshine liked him.

How could he have been so stupid? It was all so clear. And now... he's gone, he'll never be able to see his smile again, to hear his laugh and.. to see him spike his tosses.

He slowly lifts off his covers and reads the letter one more time.

"Dear Bakayama,

It's me, Hinata Shoyo. I know you only see me as a friend and Im fine with that but... I just want you to know that I love you. Like a lot! I love you as much as I love volleyball! And that's a lot so you better be honored, Bakayama! I have a disease, it's called Hanahaki. I vomit and cough out flowers because I love someone who doesn't love me back. I actually could've cured myself but, if I did then I won't be able to love you again. And I don't want that. If you don't understand then go search it up! Im not gonna explain it any further for you >:0

Just so you know, I've always really liked you. You were always so cool and stuff and I can always trust you to toss to me. Whenever I hit the tosses you throw at me, I always feel so happy that it distracts me from the pain. It feels so cool when you throw the ball and I just hit it and it goes woooosh! Flying to the other side of the net! And none of this is your fault so don't go around blaming yourself. I want you to be happy and continue playing volleyball.

I know I said I'd  stay with you till' I finally beat you but... I think just this once, it's fair to say you win. I really hope you will live a good and happy life. Please forget about me and go be happy. Just think of me as that one boy you used to toss to back in high school ok? And I just wanted to say, I love you Kageyama Tobio!

Your best friend,
Hinata S̶h̶o̶y̶o̶ Boke"

Kageyama closes the letter as more tears roll down his cheeks.

"Wait for me boke. I will be with you soon"
