Once upon a time, there were two dragons. One pure white like the snow on a winter day and one black like the coaldust that covered many mines. One having seen much of the good in humans and one having taken notice of humankind’s darkest sins and grievances. One understanding and listening. The other having shut almost everyone out not wanting to be lied to again though after seeing the others kind nature grown to love only it. One wanting to protect everything and one wanting to start everything over.
Their conflict one day would bring chaos that ruined continents and brought the upbringing of many wars to come. Their existence was that of peace and war, love and hatred, light and shadow.
The black dragon didn't hate the white dragon but rather felt that the white dragon was the only one thing that was worth saving in this sinful world. It felt like an obsession to keep the white dragon safe and away from the dangerous world. To make sure the world didn't taint it's pureness.
The white dragon didn't at all hate the black dragon but just wanted peace and wellbeing for everyone, even the black dragon.
But eventually the fight came.
And it was devastating.
It started as the first sunlight streamed in over the horizon and ended on the hour when the moon had reached midnight.
The fight went on for a day but drained the oceans of life, destroyed mountains, burnt landscapes and killed the both dragons. In their final breaths as they lay beside eachother on the brink of death the white dragon smiled weakly and said to the black dragon:
"Let's meet again in another lifetime" And it breathed in one last time before it gave in to the gentleness of death. The black dragon's eyes held grief and gentleness and looked at the body of the white dragon that was giving out a soft glow while slowly starting to turn into white dust looking rather alike the white that was already hiding the grass beneath.
It thought that the white dragon had always been beautiful with it white scales that had a shimmer to them reminding of thin ice laying over the lakes when winter first comes and it's golden eyes reminding the black dragon of the sun on the hour when it's just beginning to set.
The black dragon closed it's eyes.
"I had hoped we ended in peace…" It paused.
"If not for those humans" It opened it's eyes again this time them holding a chilling coldness like the harshest winter killing plants and animals, a merciless massacre created by nature itself.
And under that starry sky in the wasteland that was the earth it swore a promise that one day it would find the white dragon once again and this time make sure the world would not hurt it. That the black dragon always would despise the existence of humans and their cruelties because it knew, it knew that everything would come back to this and it would have to change fate.
It would have to change fate for it's loved one. Change history's most undeniable repeat for the white dragon.
And then the pain stopped and it fell into a merciful sleep, leaving only a dust that mixed with the dust of the white dragon. Spreading over the earth creating the existence of life that the black dragon had always despised.
The first humans.
