Whenever Arya got up from the dream she wished that she could go back there. The dream never occurred every night or on a special day. However, at least twice a week she would have the most realistic dream of her life and she never wanted to wake up from it. Her dreamworld was simply too special to lose.

Her first trip to this world was after her seventh birthday. Her family always thought she was just a vivid dreamer when she got up and began to immediately launch into fantastic tales of incredible creatures and phenomenal adventures. They believed in her incredible imagination, but they did not believe in her so she stopped telling them that they were true and she stopped sharing her dreams.

A common complaint from teachers was that she was a “good student but always daydreaming”. Her nickname was “early bird”, because she wanted to get into her dreamworld as quickly and consistently as possible. She was called “boring and antisocial” by classmates because she was never interested in making regular friends. She allowed herself to be misunderstood and for over a decade she kept her secret.

Her parents made smart investments and they were able to afford a reputable university and dormitory fees for her four year degree in Art. Arya showed friends, family and teachers very realistic paintings of landscapes and portraits. However, halfway into her degree, she forgot her secret sketchbook open on her desk. Her amicable yet ambitious roommate, Clarita, just happened to glance at it. Clarita was entranced by the detailed illustrations of otherworldly yet fascinating people, places, flora and fauna from the dreamworld. She instantly became a raving fan of Arya’s hidden work and pestered her to be true to her creativity. Arya resisted because she never forgot the gentle yet hurtful disbelief of her family, but Clarita became even more insistent when she found out that Arya had been writing “stories” to match her gorgeous illustrations.

Arya was pleased with Clarita’s praise, but was too scared to reveal her talent so she decided to create an Instagram account where she could marry her illustrations and fantastical autobiography. She panicked after her very first post as “DestinyDreamtraveller”. Arya now had a new secret life, but it couldn’t stay secret for long.

Within three months DestinyDreamtraveller had over 100,000 followers on Instagram. In a year they were close to half a million. A year later Arya had revealed herself as the creator and was negotiating a series of book deals before she even graduated. She dedicated all of them to Clarita. She realised that authenticity is a beacon and she promised to always be true to herself.

Welcome back!

Arya is a former student of mine and I felt compelled to include her here. She is very unique and talented like this protagonist, but definitely more outgoing and opinionated.

Like I said before: I borrow the names and not the persomalities😅.

I also wrote this story with a slight fantasy theme for students who love fantasy and blocked from writing in this genre in the CXC English exam.

Have you ever had dreams so vivid you thought they were real?

Also isn't Clarita lovely! 🥰

Do you have a friend as nice as she is?
