Hi! My name is Callie Jauregui and by my last name, you are probably asking if I was related to Lauren Jauregui or not. If you did ask that question, then the answer would be yes. Twenty years ago at the age of seventeen, Lauren met a young man named Keaton and three years after their first date, Keaton went down on his knee and proposed. She thought she was in love with him before he showed her who he really was after their engagement. The day before their wedding, Keaton heard a rumour from his brother Drew that back in high school, Lauren was in love with her best friend while she was with him.

At first he didn’t believe his brother because he remembered clearly the two of them being already In love and he told him that he knows his fiancé more than he thinks. Then Drew started telling him that he was so blind that he couldn’t see the truth. Drew told him that best friends doesn’t look at each other like the way Lauren looked at her female best friend, friends doesn’t act like a couple and they don’t stare at each other and blush. Then everything hit Keaton. Keaton was trying hard not to believe Drew’s words but deep down he knew that he was telling the truth.

Instead of talk about it with Lauren, Keaton got drunk at a alcohol bar three blocks away from Lauren’s apartment. He knocked at the door at 3 o’clock in the morning wasted. After Lauren opened the door, she saw Keaton drunk smirking at her. She asked him what was wrong with him and why he got drunk. He didn’t gave her any information about why he did what he did so he slammed the door behind him and crushed his lips against hers. And well… you know what happened next. She got abused by her own fiancé.

Once she kicked Keaton’s out after he was happy what he did, she ran to her bedroom crying trying making herself to sleep and hoped that all that was just a dream. The next day in the morning, Lauren stayed in bed still crying as she heard her phone ringing. She picked up the phone and saw that Keaton was calling her. He explained her the reason why he drunk last night without apologizing of what he did to her. After that, Lauren called off her wedding when she found that she got pregnant by a man that she didn’t want to see again in her life.

Well after 9 months after the breakup, of the age nearly twenty one, I was born. With the help of my grandparents, She took care of me, she fed me and educated me. Since then, my mother always thought me that it was okay to be different than other people because that’s what makes me more special.

When it was time for me to know the reason why my father wasn’t there, She didn’t lie to me or hid the truth, she did the opposite. I had eleven when she got the courage to tell me. I remember sitting on the couch in the living room with my legs crossed facing her and she started to tell me the truth. As soon as she finished telling me why my father wasn’t  there for me for the past eleven years, I wasn’t sad because he wasn’t there to play with me with my Barbie dolls or wasn’t there to read me a bed time story, Actually I was mad at him because of the way he treated my mother.

She never told me her best friend’s name but by the way she spoke about her, her eyes were sparkling and her smile showed up from a very long time and because of that I knew that she was still in love with her best friend.

It’s the year 2035 and Nowadays I’m all grown up. I’m seventeen and I’m in high school. I have excellent grades and a good reputation. I came first in my Science class in projects and in exams. Mom told me that back in the past, she won the first golden medal in a Science fair. I got curious and asked her where she put it. She told me  that she might put it somewhere in the attic but she wasn’t sure if she kept it. When I went upstairs to the attic to check, I switched on the torch and looked around. I saw many boxes with dust and old frames covered in a white cloth. It took me one hour and fifth teen minutes to find something interesting. In one of the boxes, I found my mother’s journal from 2013-2014. I knew that nobody can read other’s journal but if I peek a little it won’t hurt anyone.

When I opened the journal, I found an old picture of my mother and another girl. My eyes widen at the thought that she can be the girl that mom is in love with. I have to admit that she was gorgeous. She has pretty smile with gorgeous brown hair. I smiled to myself at the thought that I can ruin them together.

I spent the rest of the day in my bedroom, reading the journal. I couldn’t help myself to smile at a certain words that mom wrote in it and either I couldn’t help myself to tear up at the pain that the she wrote in it. I discovered that the girl’s name is Camila Cabello from Miami but nowadays she moved in London after high school graduation. Maybe that’s why she didn’t have the chance to tell Camila the truth I thought. Then a crazy idea popped in my head.

Since I was pretty good in that subject I came up with this crazy idea to built this time machine. My best friend Candice thought I was crazy because she believed that I couldn’t built one. Well…she was wrong. The reason why I build this time machine because I wanted to fix things and make my mother happy. I know that if you change things in the past, there will consequences but I was willing to do whatever it takes to see my mother happy.

Today was the day that I go back in past. I told mom that I was going to sleep over at Candice so she won’t have to worry about me for the next twelve hours. I grabbed my backpack and threw the journal, the photo and some clothes in it. I pushed the on button of the time machine and selected the date where  I wanted  go back. When I saw that the time machine was working, I put on a necklace that I invented to let me  come back in 2035.

I took few steps away from the time machine portal where I have to run into as I took one last deep breath, eyes closed before running through the portal.

All of the sudden, my eyes shot open. I saw green trees, huge white houses, green grass, blue sky...in other words it was a beautiful day. For me it felt like It was still in 2035 but I realized it wasn’t when I saw a newspaper on the ground next to a letterbox. I picked it up and as soon as I read the date a huge smile appeared on my lips when I read it was Monday September 2013.
