Edythe's POV

"Bella, what happened yesterday?" I asked, hoping she'd tell me the truth as I had no other way of finding out if she was lying.

She blushed again and I looked away automatically. I don't think I've ever met a human who blushed as much as she did.

Bella hesitated. "I don't know exactly," she said. "Why? Did he say anything about me? What did he tell you?" she asked, talking too fast.

"Nothing," I said. It wasn't a complete lie, though. Edward told me nothing.

"Oh," was all she said. She looked disappointed.

   "Well?"

"I hope you don't think I'm crazy, but he seemed angry at me for some reason and I don't know what I did. I'm positive that I've never met him before. Otherwise, I would've remembered."

I frowned, trying to think of a response. "Don't worry about it. Edward is . . ." I paused trying to come up with a word. "Complicated in many ways. Seriously, I wouldn't think too much about it if I were you."

"But he was glaring at me," she said, sounding more confident and comfortable. "I entered the lab and there he was, sitting on that chair. The wind from the fan blew, and he covered his nose. What was that about? Did I smell bad? And after that, he looked so angry. He even attempted to change his schedule after class."

This was much worse than I had expected. Bella seemed to have noticed something was up. And I'm the one who has to do damage control.

"I think he just wasn't feeling well yesterday," I continued to lie. "I'm sure he's not mad at you. Like you said, you've never met before."

Bella didn't seem too convinced but she dropped the subject and we worked on the assignment in silence.

Rosalie Hale's POV

Another school day was finally over.

I sat in the driver's seat while Emmett sat next to me, fidgeting with a Rubik's cube he found in the glove compartment.

"What the heck?" I heard Alice say from the backseat.

Jasper immediately became alert. "What is it?"

As if on cue, we saw Edythe walking out of the building. She was not alone, though. Beside her was none other than the Swan girl.

"What is she doing?" I hissed. "Don't tell me she's going to—"

"I don't think so. I would've seen it," Alice cut me off.

If Edythe wasn't planning on making the new girl her next meal, then what was she doing?

We watched them walk across the parking lot. I noticed we weren't the only ones staring at them, though. Everyone in the parking lot did. Isabella being the new girl already gave her almost everyone's attention. Walking side by side with a haughty Cullen doubled the attention she got.

Edythe walked Isabella to her truck before walking towards us.

Alice opened the door for her as she approached.

"Don't ask," said Edythe as she slid in the backseat.

I glared at her through the rearview mirror. She wasn't looking at me; she didn't have to. She would have seen it in my mind anyway.
