- where we learn about dylan's first meetings with the others -

☁㊋⤸

To say Dylan was nervous would be a monumental understatement. The boy was about ready to just throw himself out the fourth story window and hope for the best.

Today was the day that he was supposed to meet his new boy group members. When the meeting was scheduled two weeks ago, he thought he would have plenty of time to prepare himself for the seven new faces he would be working closely with from now on. But now that the meeting was in five minutes...

    Well.

Dylan's always been hyper aware of how he looks and is perceived by others around him, up to the point that it's been a little obsessive, and that was with people he just casually walks by on the street and will most likely never see again, but this is different.

If these seven guys don't like him then he'll just... what? What will he do? Die? That's sounding pretty appetizing right now, actually.

But all jokes aside, he's given up so much to be here. The rumors have gotten around school about the disownment from his grandparents, only making the bullying worse. And then the actual ordeal of the disownment. And his overall anxiety in general; the past few months have just been very unkind to him.

The anxiety settled in his stomach and made him feel like he needed to go to the bathroom. His hands are shaking and he doesn't doubt that his voice will too once he starts talking. He feels like crying and even though he knows logically that the meeting can't possibly be as bad as he thinks it will be, it doesn't help because there's still a tiny percent chance it can be. Actually, the boyband was originally only supposed to be a seven member group, but he got added on the last second. Hell, he's even heard that they already recorded their debut song already.

That means that he is the last priority. If he messes this meeting up then he will need to leave the group, and there is no way that that can happen. It'll crush him and his sixteen year old spirit.

Dylan almost yells when there is a knock on the meeting room door. His leg is bouncing as he hides his hands in between them, trying to get them to stop shaking. Once the seven boys are standing at the front of the room instead of sitting down at the glass meeting table like him, Dylan realizes that he should be standing up and greeting them first.

His heart is literally in his throat as he bolts up from his seat and bows deeply. "A-ah, sorry about that." His voice is wobbly and he focuses on not crying then and there, "My name is Kang Dylan."

He raises himself and looks at them, but he can't will himself to meet any of their eyes. 'What is wrong with me? One's even younger and he seems fine!'

The tallest one clears his throat and I snap my attention to him. He has a soft smile on his face, one that show his dimples. He must feel how nervous I am because his moves are slow and he doesn't talk too fast. My heart calms a little because of it and I'm grateful. "Hello." He sounds a little nervous too, "My name is Kim Namjoon, and I'm the leader."

Oh boy. He was the leader? I can feel my heartbeat pick up again. Talk about intimidating. I give a little akward way and immediately after wish I could take it back. The boy next to him then smiles at me, "I'm Kim Seokjin, and I'm the oldest."

The third one goes immediately after, "Min Yoongi."

Dylan pauses. Is that all he's saying? And he doesn't really sound like he want's to be here. Oh god, did I already piss him off already? This is so not good. Jesus christ he feels like I'm about to just break down right now.

The one who goes next has a big smile on his face and Dylan finds himself calming down just the slightest bit in his presence. "I'm Jung Hoseok! I'm excited to work with you!"

Hoseok-ssi's heart shaped smile makes his anxiety in his stomach settle just that bit more and he has a feeling that he'll become closest to Hoseok-ssi. He doesn't even seem all that nervous either.

The next boy who goes has a baby face, reminding Dylan of his own. He also looks to be around Dylan's age. "Hello, I'm Park Jimin." When he smiles his eyes basically disappear and Dylan can't help the small smile that he directs back at him.

The next boy who goes is standing close to Jimin-ssi, and Dylan wonders if they are already really close. "I'm Kim Taehyung." He copies the little wave Dylan did to Namjoon-ssi but he can't tell if Taehyung did it to mock him or if he genuinely just wanted to wave back. Oh god, I really hope it wasn't the former.

The last and shortest boy and Dylan just kinda starred at each other. Both of their faces are flushed and the wide eyed starring contest they have must have gone on for too long because Taehyung-ssi kicks the younger boys foot. He immediately startles out of whatever trance he was in and starts bowing repeatedly. Dylan's eyes widen and he starts bowing back because he simply didn't know what else to do. The boys nervous energy was feeding Dylan and vice versa, which was not good. Dylan noted that he must be as shy as him.

The older ones start giggling after a few seconds of them just bowing back and forth, and Dylan almost starts crying again. Where they laughing at him? This is so not going good.

The younger boy must feel the same because he stops and finally introduces himself, "M-my name is Jeon Jungkook. I'm the uh, I'm the youngest."

Dylan nods, certain that his face must be fire hydrant red right now. "Hi, I'm Kang Dylan." And immediately after he realizes that, oh my god, I already said that. "B-but I already said that." He sighs and fights the urge to cover his face with his hands.

A few of them chuckle again and the sinking in Dylan's stomach gets stronger. This could be going so much better than it is and he feels so awkward he's really starting to think that escape via window is not that bad of an idea.

Before the awkward silence could persist any longer, Hoseok-ssi comes over to Dylan's side of the table and puts an arm around his shoulder. Dylan flinches at his forwardness and Hoseok notices, but he doesn't say anything and files that action in his brain to discuss later.

"We were thinking about going out to eat, want to join us? Our treat." He says with another heart shaped smile and Dylan finds his shoulders slumping just a little bit. His smile widens. Dylan looks at the others and they all have inviting expressions on their faces, well, except Yoongi and Jungkook.

Dylan nods a little, "Ah, thank you Hoseok-ssi." He says, his voice a little firmer than before.

Hoseok just grins, "Call me hyung."

Dylan doesn't really know what he should be feeling right now besides anxiety, so he takes social cues from the others and nods his head, "Ok, hyung."

Hoseok leads him around to where the rest of the boys are standing and this time Dylan makes an effort to try and make eye contact with them. He see's Taehyung hyung smile when he does and he calms down a little more.

Maybe, Dylan thinks, I can find a place here.

a/n: ugh i started with inspiration and then lost it half way through, so i hope this chapter turned out ok! i based dylan's feelings of anxiety off of mine to try and make it as realistic as possible, but it's hard for me to really portray that through writing! hope it wasn't cringy or anything ><

have a good day or night!
