Mary is a quiet little girl with a beautiful gift.
On her fifth birthday, her dad bought her a drawing package of different color brushes and notebooks.

Her dad got her this gift because a few days ago when they went shopping she kept pointing at the
The stationery section and was amazed by the different colors and shapes of each package.
But he didn't have any idea that his little girl was that talented when it comes to drawing and art.
Her first drawing was a beautiful red rose... It wasn't perfect drawing like the ones made by professionals but it also was impressive for a Girl her age so her parents encouraged her into this and always praised her whenever she shows them a new painting.
However, as she grew older and by the time she reached the fourth grade her grades weren't as good as her drawings, she focused less in school and spent classes drawing sketches or daydreaming.

In parents' meeting in school, her math teacher told her mother that her grades were getting even worse and that she tried to draw her attention toward the subjects but it was to no use!

While her mother and the teacher were busy discussing the matter her art teacher interrupted their conversation and said while offering her hands to the mother to shake  "I'm sorry to interfere, I'm Miss Layla the art teacher, may I have a word with you please?"

The mother accepted her hands and said " Sure my dear, I would love to"

Then she turned to the math teacher and said " thank you, Miss Nadia, I'll consider everything you said and find a solution to the problem soon"

As Miss Nadia left the mother turned back to Miss Layla and said " so what did you want to tell me"

" I wanted to ask for your approval, you see there is an art competition between elementary schools coming up and I truly believe that your daughter could win if she prepared well "

The mother had a discreet look in her eyes and said " I'm not sure it's a good idea to let her participate... It's almost the end of the year and I want her to spend more time studying than drawing, also I don't want her to be good in only one thing in school and ignore all the other subjects I want her to do her best in everything, I don't want to raise a lazy girl! "

The art teacher held the mother's hand and said" I know what you think, believe me, I'm a mother too, but don't you think that giving her a chance in this competition might give her some confidence and encourage her to try and do her best in her study too if you showed her that you trust her desires and decisions she may learn to respect your desires and orders too, and hopefully if she won that competition she may have a new motive to work hard and study more "

The mother smiled hearing the teacher's opinion and thanked her for the advice and promised to think about it.

In the evening when Mary was home from school and it was dinner time her mother discussed the matter with her father in the end they decided that they will let Mary participate if she promised them to study more and do her best to make them proud.
Mary felt a bit nervous about the studying part but still, she was happy that now she can participate in a drawing competition for the first time.

The day of the competition :

Mary arrived at the school in which the competition will take place alongside her art teacher... She was so nervous that when she started painting her hands were shaking involuntary... Then she heard her mother's voice saying " Mary you got this, I'm sure you will win my dear so come on do your best and make momy proud!!"

Mary turned around and saw her mother standing next to her teacher, they were both smiling and encouraging her, so she took a deep breath and took a fresh paper to start a new drawing on.

An hour later the participants were told to stop drawing and step back so the jury could decide on the top 3 winners.

The bronze medal was received by a boy who drew an impressive picture of Batman, the silver medal was received by a girl who drew an amazing picture of the moon and the gold medal was received by Mary who drew a beautiful picture of her mother! "

After she received the first place medal she ran toward her mother and hugged her as tight as she can then her mother bent down and said" congratulation my dear I knew you can do it "

Mary looked at her mother and said" what about your picture mommy did you like it? "

Her mother wiped a tear that sneaked from her eye and said" I loved it, it's the most fascinating picture I've ever seen because it had been drawn by my beautiful little artist "

Mary wiped her mother's tears with her small hand and said" thanks mommy, I promise to always do my best to make you proud "
