The morning air, crisp and pregnant with the promise of a new challenge, hummed with a nervous energy that even Kala, usually unflappable, could sense. It was the day of the 2nd test – the Teamwork Test – and her heart was already with the trainees. She'd risen with the sun, a rare feat for someone who often burned the midnight oil, driven by an unyielding need to offer them a final surge of encouragement.
First, to I-Land, a whirlwind of hugs and high-fives, her infectious cheer cutting through the pre-performance jitters. Then, a quick dash to Ground, repeating the ritual, her bright smile a beacon in the tense atmosphere. She knew the grind these kids endured, the relentless pursuit of perfection that often overshadowed their individual light. As she hugged each one, whispering words of affirmation, she reminded herself of the promise she'd made: to be a shield, a guiding hand, in an industry that too often chewed up and spat out dreams.
"You've got this," she whispered to one who looked especially nervous.
"No pressure," she added to another. "But if you mess up—make it look cool."
The boys chuckled, their nerves melting just a little.
"You got this, all of you!" she'd chirped, her voice a soothing balm. "Just breathe, trust each other, and show them what you've got!"
