Slow and Steady

KIT

Anyone and everyone who saw Ming, would look at him and think about what handsome means to them. Easy on the eyes? Charismatic? , with his long legs and that side smile, his eyes playing with other people's hearts like it was nothing. However, if they come closer - they will only see endless goodness. The way he acts when it is just the two of us will however be disillusioned by how adorable he acts. Spending time with him, well.. it started slowly until there was no looking back. Me, who is just someone so normal, was overwhelmed by this, frankly handsome guy, trying to get my attention, texting me, asking me out on dates, movies, shopping, and any other way we could spend time together. He would run to me whenever he saw me and had to be dragged away by either Wayo or his engineering friends for classes and activities. But what they don't know, nobody but me is that there is another part of him- not just the charming but adorable puppy, but someone more sturdy and fierce just like a wolf.

I blink my eyes awake as Beam shakes me from his seat, the one next to mine. Wide-eyed I stare at him, and damn it - it happened again. This is what is going to make me fail med school. Over the last few months, the number of times I have dozed off thinking about Ming have grown exponentially. I've been trying to understand him, genuinely. And I'm just as lost now as I was before, no matter how much I rack my brain. The class ends and I pack up all my stuff and call out to Beam and Phana who are already ready with their bags.
Beam stomps his foot and starts complaining about how hungry he is.'Shia, kit! What is wrong with your head. I know prof. Thara's class is hell but you would be dead if he ever catches you sleeping with your eyes open.'
Even Pha seems a little distressed as he looks at me. 'Are you okay? You seem a little bit too distracted these days. Let's postpone our study by a few hours and you go sleep in the afternoon.  Ai Beam, let's meet in my room at 8 instead. '
'No no. I'm fineee. I guess I've been in my head a little too much. I need more time to study and less time alone with my thoughts anyway, let's keep it at 6. Shia, you guys help me go over the lecture I blanked out on as well. '
They just shrug and keep walking. I know they know what's bothering me. Since Ming got crowned as the campus moon and that "date", he has been  "pursuing" me. We text often and he comes to pick me up or drop me sometimes. We haven't gone on another date or anything. But we do spend quite a lot of time with each other. 

As we go sit at the med school cafeteria, we see N'Yo waving at us from the table. And Ming is there as well. Of course, he is. I slow my pace just a bit so I can walk behind Beam and Pha.
Pha goes immediately to sit as physically close to his boyfriend and tunes the rest of us out. We got used to it by now. At least by mid-meal, they seem to come out of their world and interact with us lowly beings. Beam just drops his bag and goes to get his food without looking twice. And then, Ming is looking at me, smiling from ear to ear as he picks up his bag from the seat next to him and places it on the other side. I sigh inwardly. Here we go again.
I go sit next to him. Take off my bag as he rattles off about his classes. I can't deny how sweet he is to me. I know it's not been easy for him, and everyone is definitely sympathetic to how cold I've been to him aswell. But in spite of all of that, he has only ever been patient. And it seems that something in my heart seems to have moved a little these past few days.
He asks me about my day, and I inwardly curse at him. I just frown my eyebrows and say' I need to work harder. Today, Phana, Beam and I are going to go through this week's classes till we get it seared into our heads.'
Ming nods ' Yo and I are going to binge some anime he can't stop talking about. I feel medical students work so hard. If you are staying till late, Yo and I can come and have dinner with you guys in the room. I'll give you some break too.'
This seems to have become a practice for us, and it's one of those things that really warmed my heart the first time he showed up with some food and N'Yo for Phana. These days, he drops me back at my dorm instead of Beam. And yes, the first few times Beam absolutely made sure to embarrass me as much as he could.
Now I can't wait till tonight and for all the wrong reasons. There goes my study motivation right out the window.

Dude, the way I see it. I understand that kit has a sharp tongue and gets shy and all that. But from personal experience, I realise that this kind of a person tends to be super different in a relationship setting and quite opposite and much quieter. But that's just my take on it.
