Phoenix’s POV:
It’s been a week since the kiss. I panicked and ran out. I shouldn’t have kissed her. I know vampires and humans can’t be together and it was a stupid move. I haven’t been able to face her so I’ve made Jesse or Miles go in and give her the blood. But today I’m gonna man up and go see her.
Seeing Jesse walking towards the room I catch up with him “I’ll do it today” He shrugs and hands me the cup before walking off.
I open the door slowly, preparing my apology speech but as soon as I saw her I dropped the cup in shock. Jesse and Miles had brought her the blood but they had put the cups just out of reach, tipped over so that the blood trickled towards her.
She was pulling at the chains right now trying to get at the little pools of blood. She looked really weak and her eyes had turned red. Just like expected when she looked up at me her fangs were clearly on show.
“Oh my god Ashlyn!” I said and ran towards her, careful not to get too close though.
“Ashlyn?” I hear a voice behind me say. Reid. “You know its name” He tusked “I must say I’m rather disappointed with you little brother. You’ve become too friendly with this monster. I’ve tried to show you what it’s like before but I don’t believe you have learnt any lesson so I’m going to leave you in here with it for a couple of days. It won’t be able to resist your blood and when you get just into reach BAM it’ll snap your neck and suck all of your blood. I’m not trying to get you killed little bro but this is for your own good” He said and shut the door, locking it behind him.
That asshole! Vampires aren’t monsters and he just can’t see that. He thinks keeping me in here is going to make me change my mind well he can think again, she’s not a monster she’s just really hungry and no wonder with the little to nothing amount of blood she’s had. I turn to her and start slowly advancing.
“N-no Phoenix d-don’t come near m-me, I don’t w-wanna hurt y-you” She managed to croak out.
“You won’t. I know you Ashlyn, you won’t hurt me”
“But I’m s-so hungry. Just you b-being here is torture”
I frown and look at her. She’s so weak. Her whole body is shaking and her fingers are bleeding slightly from where she had been scratching at the floor. She’ll die soon if she doesn’t get some blood. I grabbed one of the cups and smashed in on the floor before picking up one of the pieces and making a small cut on my forearm.
“W-what are you d-doing?”
“Here take some of my blood” She shook her head “Come on, you’ll die if you don’t get some”
Slowly she grabbed my arm and I saw her red eyes shine as she brought it to her mouth. She began to drink. Her grip on my arm tightened and she pressed my arm even closer to her mouth like she couldn’t drink fast enough.
I soon began to feel weak but she wasn’t stopping. Will she stop? Did I make a mistake offering my blood? Is Reid right- that faced with hunger she will kill with no mercy? My life is now in her hands and with the way she’s frantically drinking it doesn’t look like she’s gonna stop anytime soon. I’m probably gonna die. Crap.
Ashlyn’s POV:
As soon as the blood hit my tongue I closed my eyes and enjoyed the sweet taste. Blood to a vampire is like water to a human and boy was I thirsty. The warm liquid slid down my throat and I instantly began to feel better. I felt my strength returning and opened my eyes. Phoenix was staring down at me with a look of worry on his now pale face.
I pulled away from his arm and swallowed the last mouthful. I had to stop before I killed him. He wavered slightly before leaning against the wall. “Thanks” I say without making eye contact as I wiped the extra blood from around my mouth
“You’re welcome” He said before an awkward silence filled the room.
Finally I turned to him and said “You haven’t given me my daily blood since the day we kissed”
Refusing to look at me he said “I know. Humans and vampires can’t be together I know that but I can’t help my feelings for you. I guess I just panicked. I needed time to think” He finally looked up at me “But I swear I had no idea what Jesse and Miles were doing. I’m so sorry”
“It’s fine” I replied.
“No it’s not. You could have died”
“But I didn’t. You offered me your blood. That is the bravest thing I’ve ever seen a human do and I’m really thankful”
He smiled “I know you don’t any feelings for me but-” I cut him off by pressing my lips to his. Pulling back I said “I do have feelings for you Phoenix. I know it’s crazy. You’re human and I’m meant to be getting married but I can’t help how I feel”
His smiled returned and he wrapped his arm around me “I’m going to get you out of here Ashlyn. I don’t know how yet but I promise I will” I smiled up at him before drifting off to sleep to the sound of his heartbeat.
