~Y/n's POV~

There he was, King George. I was in shook to say the least. We stared at each other for a moment before Seabury said, "Your highness this is Duchess Y/n Dauphine and Duchess Y/n Dauphine this is his royal highness King George the Third." The king bent down and kissed my hand.

"It's an honor to meet you my lady," He said. His voice was smooth like caramel.

"A-An honor to meet you too your highness," I managed to spit out, doing a quick curtsy.

"I'll let you two be," Seabury said, leaving the room. We stood there in awkward silence for a moment before he pulled out a chair for me.

"Please take a seat," he said. I slowly sat down as he pushed in the chair for me. He went to the other side of the table and sat down. He was wearing a red jacket, a white powdered wig and a massive crown.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, I've heard so much about you," he said.

"It's so nice to meet you too," I managed to spit out. I was stuttering, god I hope he doesn't mind that. Dinner was then brought out. It was a massive ham and was plated for both of us. George clearly had no clue what to say and nor did I.

"So is this your first time in London?" George asked. I just nodded. God this was awkward. About half way through dinner George decided to speak again, "Oh I nearly forgot, I have something for you." He said. He got from the table and a guard handed him something I couldn't see. He then proceed to walk towards me and hand it to me. It was a bright red rose.

"Oh thank you your majesty it's beautiful," I said.

"Please, call me George, there is no need for formality," He said. Walking back over to his chair. I ran the rose petals through my fingers, smiling to myself. I finally decided to say something.

"Ya know growing up in the French countryside, I was surrounded by roses, mostly red ones though," I said. I saw George smile to himself from across table.

"Are they your favorite type of flower?" He asked.

"Yeah along with daises," I said, "do you have a favorite type of flower?"

"I live tulips," He said.

"I noticed they're were a lot of tulip bushes in front of the castle," I said.

"Yeah I had people plant them for me to make me smile," he said. I smiled back. I was just starting to take in his figure. He had piercing blue eyes and an infectious smile. Soon dinner was done and I found myself going to my chamber.

"Wait!" George called. I turned around. He started to walk towards to me. He kissed my hand again and said "meet me here at noon tomorrow for a surprise." I nodded before going back up to my chambers.

I quickly tore off the dress, pulled my hair out of the bun and took of the makeup. I put on a nightgown and looked out the window. It was raining outside and pretty hard. As lightning flashed across the sky it hit me like a ton of bricks. I would most likely never see my family again. I would never get to roll through the flower fields, never get to hug my sister. I would be stuck in this castle like a fairy tale. That's when I burst into tears.

~King George's POV~

"SEABURY!" I yelled, marching into his chambers.

"Yes sire!" He shot up from his desk, almost knocking a lit candle onto his sheep skin rug.

"I need you to place an order for me."

"Yes whatever you want sire," Seabury said, picking up a quill and fresh piece of paper.

"I want hundreds of rosebushes all over the grounds and I want them all there by noon tomorrow," I spat.

"Sire that will take a long time and it's the middle of a thunder storm-"

"DID I HESITATE SEABURY!" I barked.

"No you didn't sire, I'll place the order right away," He said.

"Good," I said marching out of his chambers and down the hall to mine, but while walking to my chambers I heard a weird noise. I stopped dead in my tracks. It was Y/n's chamber and it sounded like...crying. I opened the door a crack to see her on the floor, her head to her knees. Why was she crying? What sound I do? Comforting her should be the job of a maid, not the king. But something about seeing her upset triggered something deep inside me.

"Y/n," I called out. Her crying suddenly stopped. "Is everything alright?"

"Yeah I-I'm fine," She managed to call out. Her voice was shaky and she was clearly upset.

"Y/n you're clearly lying, and you don't want to lie to the king," I said. She didn't respond, "May I come in?" No response again. I decided to open the door all the way. There she was, on the floor sobbing her heart out. I was tempted to just walk away and get a maid, but something came over me again. Slowly I walked over to her and sat down next to her and put my hand on the small of her back.

"Y/n, what's wrong?" I asked.

"Nothing George," She sobbed, turning away from me.

"Y/n you can tell me. You can tell me anything your heart desires my rose," I said. Why'd I call her rose? I hope that's not weird.

"I j-just realized I'm probably never going to be able to go home ever again," She sobbed. I pulled her tightly into my chest.

"My little rose that's not true. One day you can go see your family, and they can always come visit," I said. I rubbed her back up and down, her sobbing ceasing. Her head was resting on my neck.  Maybe this marriage wouldn't be the worst thing after all.
