"The Only Thing We Have To Fear Is Fear Itself"

There is true danger in this world

More real than anything you can read about in papers

Or hear about from politicians who would

Have you distrust your neighbors

It is a darkness deep and powerful
And older than its beholders
It thrives in those who are most hateful
But it survives through its ability to smolder
In every human on this planet
It has taken pieces of itself and become like a seed
That grows as a weed in every heart it is planted

It manifests as a dislike of that which is different
That is fueled entirely by past experiences of pain
And every moment we stay ignorant
It is more harmful than anything I can name

And yet we still ignore those who warn us of its reach
We block out everything FDR and JFK tried to teach
Because it is easier to feel afraid and hide away
Than to admit that fear has made us all its prey
