"This boy is head over heels for you" Marie whispered, making sure Jc wouldn't here.
It was around 9 when we got back from the museum and my nosy cousin decided to wait for us to come back. She made coffee for the three of us and well, Jc excused himself to use the restroom.
"How do you know?" I asked with curiosity.
"Because of the way he looks at you and spoils you and I can tell he's really overprotective. You're quite lucky" she explained.
Before I could respond, my phone went off... it was Marlene.
"Hel-loooooooow" I answered exaggerating the 'o' a little bit.
"Girl, am I dead to you or somethin''" without wasting a second, she replied.
"Well damn, missed you too. How the kids doin'?" I asked, smiling to myself as Marie looked at me with a poker face.
"Shut up" she laughed.
"So, why'd you call?" I asked.
"Well damn, I'll just be on my way then" she scoffed.
"No, I didn't mean it that way" I sighed.
"I was just wondering if I could come over" she answered.
"Why?" I asked curiously.
"You don't want me to go over or something?" she asked a bit annoyed.
"I was just asking"
"I'm bored and I miss you" she replied, as if we were in some sort of relationship.
"I mean, yeah that's fine. It'd be fun!" I cheered.
"Alrighty then, be there in 10" and with that she hung up.
I locked my phone and then set it on the table as I looked up and noticed a cousin with a raised eyebrow.
"Can I help you?"
"Who's coming over?" she blurted.
"Marlene, why?" I smiled.
"Oh" was all she said.
"Is there something wrong with that?" I asked confused.
"No"
"Are you sure?" I pursued.
"Yeah"
"You're being really blunt right now, you're only like that when you're mad" I stated.
"I just don't like her, that's all" she took a sip of her coffee.
"Why?" I spat.
"Because you always get into trouble when you're with that girl. Make wise decisions on who you choose to be your friends, Melissa" she explained.
"You got it all wrong" I shook my head in disapproval.
"No, I don't think I do" she contradicted.
"I get her into trouble. I talk her into doing things. She does nothing, but support me" I said as my voice kept raising.
"Um... what's going on?" Jc interrupted.
"Oh, nothing dear. I was just going up to my room" Marie announced, as she took her mug and went upstairs.
After Jc was sure she was fully in her room, he turned towards me.
"What's up?" he examined my face.
"Nothing" I responded.
"Melissa..." he warned.
"Nothing, Jc" I repeated.
"Are you sure?" he assured.
As if on cue, the door bell rang. I got up and made my way to the door and opened it.
"Greetings earthlings" Marlene waved.
"Don't start" I giggled, as she started walking into the house.
"Um... hey Marlene" Jc nervously greeted.
Before she even took a step further, she turned around to face me.
"What is HE doing here?" she asked, annoyed.
"Um... he came to visit, why?" I responded, a bit taken back.
"How long?" her voice being as blunt as it can possibly be.
"I don't know" I shrugged.
"So if I sleep over, I have to deal with THAT?" she pointed behind her.
Why is she being so brutal?
"You know you can whisper, right?" Jc intervened.
"Shut up." Marlene demanded.
"Yeah..." I responded.
"I'm out" she stated, before walking past me and through the door.
Huh?
"Wait, what?" I went behind her.
"Call me when he's gone" we're her last words before going into her car.
I looked at her car in confusion, as it drove off. I went back inside and looked directly at Jc.
"What was that about?" I asked, he looked at me a bit caught off guard.
"I don't... know" he hesitated. He looked nervous and then he shrugged. I decided to shake it off, but I couldn't help but wonder.
