Homeworld's Little Prodigy

Chapter 4: Babysitting

A/N: So FYI, this Chapter was going to be released on July 9th, aka my Birthday, but I had completely lost the progress I had written for it, so I had to make due and rewrite the Chapter from what I remember. (Also, fun fact: Rebecca Sugar's birthday and mine are one and the same)

Onyx had been right there... Right there! If Yellow Diamond had just been one minute late, she could've gotten to see the outside of Homeworld.

"What were you thinking trying to leave the sanctuary of these walls?!" Yellow scolded, "You know very well that you are not allowed outside the palace!"

"F-Forgive me, my Diamond..." Onyx replied, saluting Yellow.

Just before Yellow Diamond could drag Onyx back to her room, she was shockingly confronted by the little gem's Diamond, White Diamond. Yellow was a bit taken aback to see White out of her room for once, but still stood like a professional in White's presence.

"Ah, good... You're both here." White commented.

"Hello, White..." Yellow replied, "Is there something I can help you with..?"

"Hmm... Yes," White said, "I'm heading to the court room to tend to a Sapphire that's rumored to be defective, after that, I have a lot more work to do regarding my other gems, so I need you to watch Onyx for me while I'm busy."

Yellow's eyes shot wide open, "Whaaaat!? Why me..? Why not Blue?!"

"Oh, Blue had too many appointments today and she couldn't reschedule or make time." White replied, nonchalantly.

Onyx was terrified at the thought of being in the same room as Yellow Diamond, let alone being watched by her. She could tell by the look in Yellow's eyes that Yellow wasn't exactly thrilled with the plan either.

"I am no Gemsitter, White!" Yellow Diamond exclaimed, "I have my own gems I need to tend to!"

"Ah, good! Then you're on board with the idea... I'm sure you two will get along just fine..." White smiled ominously. Yellow received her message loud and clear, this was no ordinary request... This was a direct order from White Diamond herself.

"Y-Yes, of course, White..."

White smiled and turned away, heading off to somewhere that Onyx most likely didn't know about.

Yellow sighed in annoyance as soon as White was out of sight and stomped to her control room, still carrying the little black gem.

"If you don't want to be put in a bubble," she began, dropping Onyx on the armrest of her throne, "Stay right here and don't. Touch. Anything."

"Y-Yes, my Diamond," Onyx replied with a flimsy salute, showing immense fear and caution in her eyes.

Yellow sat in her throne and continued about her work, refusing to make eye contact with the gem she was tasked to watch and mostly grumbling to herself. Yellow Diamond certainly was an interesting gem to say the least, though not very colorful personality-wise.

Onyx remained silent, though she wasn't ordered to be quiet. She didn't want to upset Yellow Diamond, as clearly hearing her Diamond's request made her very sour.
