Chapter 5: Trial

"Blue, what are you thinking?" Yellow continued to argue, "You CAN'T send this inexperienced gem into a court hearing just like this!"

"Why not..?" Blue asked, "I think she would be great at assisting my Zircon..."

"Ugh," Yellow rolled her eyes and mumbled quietly to herself, "you're just going to use this gem as an excuse for my Zircon not to shatter the accused..."

Onyx had never been to a court room. She had no reason to go there. She didn't even know what kind of case Blue Diamond was handling. What was the guilty party like? Who were they? Why were they being put on trial? Who were these "Zircons" Yellow and Blue Diamond spoke of?

"My Zircon can fill in her in on the trial details once she gets here," Blue Diamond reassured, "It's just... I feel this case would be a lot easier to handle with Onyx's help."

Onyx shook in her boots quietly. She was nervous about messing something up. Surely if she defended the accused, whatever gem sent them to trial would be very angry with her. She could even be cracked or shattered for her treachery.

"My Diamond..?" Onyx addressed, "Will it be alright..? I mean... No matter which side I choose."

Blue Diamond assured Onyx, "I will not hold anything against you if you side with the accused gem, Onyx... This is your first contribution to our empire after all... And you still have not acquired any knowledge of your purpose or capabilities..."

Well, I didn't need that fact to be rubbed in my face again, Onyx thought.

Yellow Diamond glanced back and forth nervously before sighing in defeat. "Pearl, show Onyx to the court room." she ordered.

Yellow Pearl saluted, "Yes, my Diamond!"

Onyx followed Yellow Pearl out of Yellow Diamond's control room and straight towards Blue Diamond's location. There was actually a courthouse a little ways away from the palace, but to make sure Onyx would be safe from the outside, Blue Diamond chose to conduct the trial in the Palace's very own court room.

"Here we are..." Yellow Pearl inquired, leading the way inside.

It didn't take long for them to find a blue gem in the waiting room. They looked very formal, their gem on their chest just like Onyx. This must've been the Zircon gem Blue Diamond was talking about.

She didn't hold back on her thoughts when she spotted Onyx, "This is the gem I'm supposed to prepare for this case..?! This one..?!"

"Yup," Yellow Pearl replied, "I don't know why Blue Diamond would ever consider this gem to attend such matters, but I won't dare question a Diamond."

"Ugh, just great." Blue Zircon responded, "Well, if it can't be helped then I'll fill you in on what's going on. Listen very carefully!"

Onyx nodded.

"So, we recently uncovered a strange looking Rutile gem in one of the Kindergartens on Homeworld. They look like this." Blue Zircon adjusted her monocle, pulling up a screen showing a photo image of the Rutile gem. They appeared to be twins that were stuck to the same gem.

"Why are they stuck together like that..?" Onyx asked.

"They were made like that," Blue Zircon responded.

Onyx nodded in understanding, "... So what's the problem with them..?"

The Zircon attorney's eyes went wide, "What's wrong with them?! Did you seriously just ask me that?! They're Off-Color..! What Rutile gem have you seen that looks like that!?"
