Chapter 19
It was Friday afternoon a week after I had first talked to James. Every time I saw him in the halls now, he was always looking at me. At the moment I was sitting on my bus about to go home. All week I had been hearing about how I should break up with John. People kept telling me I could get better than him, and they said that when they saw us I didn’t look entirely happy. Truthfully I had come to the conclusion that I wasn’t happy at all. This coming Saturday would was going to be our one month anniversary. We hadn’t kissed, hung out, held hands or anything. It was like a pre-school relationship, and I could tell it wasn’t going to go anywhere even if I had wanted it to.
“So did you break up with John yet?” My friend Jacob asked me sitting in his bus seat.
Jacob was one of the biggest supporters of me dumping John. He always found the excuse that I could find somebody that would treat me right, and was a real man. I liked that he looked out for me, I thought of him as an older brother and was glad he seemed to think of me like that too.
“No I haven’t, he avoided me today.” I replied.
All of a sudden a girl named Bre turned around and looked at me. “If your going to break up with him, then just do it over facebook. That way you’ll be happy and you can do it fast and easy.”
“Yeah thats a great idea thanks!” I said opening up my laptop.
I got on facebook and updated my status to It’s finally over guys! :D and then changed my relationship status to single. I knew that she had probably not meant to do it this way, but oh well, I was happier already even though it was mean. I then shut out of facebook and sat back in my seat thinking about tomorrow. I was going to vermont, and I would get to see my cousins for their birthday.
I woke up, washed my face, then straightened my hair. When I was done I lightly did my make up using some sparkly-ish bronzer and some eyeliner finishing it off with mascara. I then found a red fleece sweater, my jeggings and my uggs. All together it looked pretty good but I felt I needed one more thing. I looked around and finally found my fake diamond earrings. I put them in then stood back looking at myself in the mirror. I had to admit, I looked pretty damn hot. And I usually wouldn’t say that about myself, ever. My gram then pulled up and I ran out with my sister to leave. The three hour drive seemed to go pretty fast and I was excited to finally see the sign saying I had reached Island Pond (a town that I used to live in, and its like 20 minutes from where I was going) I looked over my old town and smiled as the memories came rushing back as always.
“Whatcha doing Jacks?” My gram asked me.
“Oh just thinking about the good ol’ days of living here.” I replied.
“Well if you want we could stop by and say hi before we leave this afternoon...” She said looking over quickly.
“Really?!?! Oh my god that would be AMAZING!!!” I said squealing in excitement.
Now I was even more excited for the day. After about ten minutes later we stopped by my Aunt’s house to see if one of my cousins was there (she has three kids, Luke and Tamieka are twins, and Marshal is the younger one) I was volunteered to go and knock on the door while my gram and sister sat in the car. So scared no one would be home, I walked up and heard the dogs bark as soon as I knocked. After about a minute Luke came to the door on the phone and when he saw me this surprised look came onto his face.
“Holy shit! Look at who it is” He said talking to me, then put the phone back to his ear and told them he’d call them back. He opened the door and beckoned me inside. We got to talking for a minute, then I remembered Mammie and my sister Vanna. I motioned for them to come in and so they did.
“We came bearing presents!” Mammie told Luke while handing him a bag.
He opened it and started laughing. Inside there was a suicide wheel, I think thats what they called it? But anyways turns out they are illegal and we wondered where the hell our grandmother would have found one. He thanked her and then said he had to get back to work, because he was on his lunch break so we said our goodbyes and he silently asked if I wanted to go out for a smoke. I declined and said I couldn’t be caught with that on my breath and he nodded in understanding. We then started back on our journey to the China Moon.
Around ten minutes later we finally reached the China Moon an “all you can eat buffet”. The reason for quotations you may ask, well its simple if they think you’ve eaten enough they kick you out. Anyways! We got out and headed inside to wait for Mieka. Eventually she came and we ate lunch happily talking about how we had been lately and all that good junk. After about an hour we left because we still had another stop to make.
Twenty minutes later we were slowing down and just about to pull into Sadie’s grandparents house. Her mothers car wasn’t there so I chickened out and drove to the gas station to get gas and drinks instead. My friend Judy was working and when she saw me, stopped and ran out to give me a hug.
“Jackalin! How are you?” She said hugging me.
“Judy! I’m pretty good you?” I asked hugging her back.
“I’m really good! Have you stopped in to see Linda and them?” She questioned.
“No I haven’t, I got kinda scared and chickened out.” I replied laughing a little.
“Well you should, I’m sure they would be surprised and happy to see you!” She exclaimed so I agreed to go back and then we had to say our goodbyes. Mammie was more than happy to drive back to see them and so we did. We arrived and I went up to knock on the door. I got the come in yell so I did just that. Linda looked out to see who it was, and almost died of surprise.
“Jackalin!” She exclaimed and came over to engulf me in a hug.
“Linda!” I said hugging her back.
We stood there talking for about ten minutes when I heard the stairs creaking. I looked up to see Tyler coming down, in only boxers. That was a bit weird for me so I quickly looked down and then back over to Linda.
“Tyler look who it is!” She said presenting me.
“I see that.” He said looking at me smiling. He walked out into the kitchen and started getting the things to bake a cake. He walked to the fridge which was right beside me and Linda and opened it getting out eggs.
“So she’s coming back down Christmas vacation just to see you Tye!” Linda said patting him on the back.
He looked at me with something gleaming in his eyes, smiled, the said “Oh really? In that case I can’t wait.” Adding a flirty wink.
It made my heart pound. I was in love with this kid when I lived here before. I had been in love with him for awhile, and we had this unsaid type of thing. We both liked each other, a lot and every time I went down, we always would act semi like a couple, and I say semi because I at the age of fourteen have yet to kiss a guy. I have slept with a few (not in the sex way), cuddled, rolled around with them, but no never kissed one. Laugh all you want but it’s fine with me. And yes people such as Marc and Tyler, have asked/tried to kiss me, but I’ve always evaded it. I smiled flirtishly as I did with all guys and then laughed a little. Soon I had to go because Mammie still wanted to make it home and before too late. I said my goodbyes and left.
When I was in back in Maine, Tyler and I began texting. He insisted that I had been checking him out “down there” which I said I hadn’t. He still wouldn’t believe me but then asked how much I had done with a guy, I told him truthfully. He told me that when I came up to see him, he wanted to change that so I said why not. Then my dad called me and said that he wanted me to go to my Meme’s house for the night (his parents) and so we headed down there. I walked in and sat down pulling out my laptop. I was bored and wanted to talk to someone about my problems. I saw Aaron was on and wrote to him. Then like five other people started writing me and asking why I broke up with John. One of these people I didn’t even know, so I was extremely confused why he would care, and even more so because he was saying John didn’t even know yet. I got a little scared and so I stopped writing him and dealt with John, his sister, and his best friend. They wanted to know why, and then insisted it was because I had cheated. Never in my life had I cheated, or even planned on it for that matter. I didn’t want to ever hurt someone that way wether I liked them like that or not. After about an hour of fighting I got off not feeling like talking to anybody. Soon after I went to bed suddenly exhausted.
