That night, I had dreams about vicious ghostly criminals killing the haunted hangman. I also had nightmared about being arrested for setting off fire alarms.
The next day, we met at our favourite Burger restaurant first our usual Saturday lunch. I looked around first Liam. He was missing. Perhaps he'd already been thrown into jail!
My feeling of dread disappeared a minute later when Liam burst into the restaurant and ran to our table.
"Have you heard the news?" He blurted, falling into a chair. "It wasn't our fault that the fire engines came to my block."
We looked you, surprised.
"How come?" Harry demanded.
"Some trash had caught fire in the cleaners room and started the alarm," Liam explained. "The firemen told me about it when they went through through block to make sure everything was okay."
"But didn't they see the fire hose on the roof?" I asked.
"And what about all the water we squirted around?" Niall wanted to know. "Didn't they ask how it got there?"
Liam shrugged. "They said that the fire hose on the roof was faulty, that was all." He hesitated, a frown creasing his brow. "Do you think he managed to escape?"
"I guess well never know." Said Harry.
Suddenly he let out a cry and looked under the table. We leaned down to see what was wrong.
There rubbing against her leg, was the hangman's cat.
"It's Disraeli!" Harry shrieked. "How did it get here?"
"He's with me." said a gruff voice.
We leaped to our feet. The haunted hangman was standing right behind us in the crowded restaurant.
"Don't worry." he said. "You're the only ones who can see me. I just stopped by to thank you and let you know I'm moving on. I've found an old boat to hide on. Surrounded by water. I should be safe there."
Before we could say anything, he and his cat were gone.
I was silent first a while. Then I looked at Liam.
"Are you doing anything tonight?" I asked him.
He looked at me, surprised. "No. Why?"
"I want to go back to the bridge," I told him. "I still haven't seen an Asian ghost."
Liam's face turned pale. So did Niall's. Harry pinched my arm fiercely.
"Lou!" He hissed. "Forget it, okay? Just forget it!"
