Katsuki Bakugou chose not to be royalty. According to his parents he could have had it all if he'd only complied to their wishes. But you see, the thing is, being a royal was all that life had to offer. He would have power but not respect. If he were to be a prince he would have his people's utmost compliance but not their trust, how could anyone trust someone in such a position to begin with?
Bakugou wanted real trust and real compliance thus why he didn't ever want to be a prince. When he left his kingdom, he formed a tribe and this tribe was one built upon trust and reliability.
They were close yet Bakugou relied solely upon himself to provide his tribe with the essentials that they needed to survive and more. But he still preferred to be alone, he still preferred not to let his guard down, he kept his walls up.
It was ironic, he denied the opportunity to rule upon a kingdom only for real trust yet he still kept his walls up and he still acted distant towards everybody. He was insecure and the only thing he felt would uphold his image was holding on to his cheap pride.
Often times he cursed himself for it but not once did he regret choosing this life. He was lonely, sure but this was because nobody was persistent enough to try and figure him out, not even his own tribe.
And so the group that he'd worked so hard to trust and rely on didn't feel the same way about him. They all became more distant towards each other and the life he'd constructed suddenly came to a crashing halt.
Bakugou slowly stoped providing for his tribe and everybody tried to fend for themselves. It was clear that they could all make it on their own, it was clear that they didn't need him. They drifted apart, went their separate ways and made it on their own.
Bakugou was hurt. He wondered why he couldn't get anyone to stay, why he couldn't just trust them and let go of his pride. Bakugou hated feeling weak, so he got stronger.
Before he knew it he'd built up a reputation and people began hiring him for jobs around the town, he protected the people from the fiends that lurked around the village. Fiends were byproducts of magic being used incorrectly.
They came in all sorts of shapes and sizes and they could be created in all sorts of ways. That being said, if you wanted to practice magic you'd have to know exactly what you were doing.
Bakugou would get paid for banishing these fiends and he'd be able to buy food and support himself. He had enough but it didn't feel like enough. He was lonely but he lied to himself.
He didn't need anyone to take care of him, right? That was not the case.
Ejirou Kirishima had gotten good at blending in. He couldn't stay in a city for too long until his location was discovered. It was unnerving, the feeling of always being followed was.
He couldn't make any friends, he couldn't stand out, he had to blend in for his own sake. An organization specializing in dark magic was after him and despite all of his efforts to get rid of them, they persisted.
He had a divine sense of smell and as it just so happened, people had certain smells to them, distinct smells. And evil had its own smell. That was how he knew he was being followed. The smell seemed to go wherever he went.
And then the day finally came. He didn't smell any evil. He wasn't being followed but the feeling still lingered. He was still anxious. So he kept running, he ran until a small wooden cabin came into view.
It somebody else's scent was still evident but it wasn't prominent, the cabin belonged to somebody but they weren't there. Kirishima opened the door with a creak to find a dimly lit room with a yellow hue.
A fire was still lit. Kirishima panicked and blew it out. Who leaves a fire on in a wooden house? Kirishima sighed and slumped onto a bed. Just as he began drifting off to sleep, the door creaked open...
