No one ever thinks about the poor wolf's story. No, it is always all about the girl in the red cloak. That wretched Little Red Riding Hood. Have you ever wondered what his story was? Or did you always just assume he was the villain? Hmm? Yes? Because he has big, sharp teeth, and long, dangerous claws, because he prowls around at night and growls menacingly? Well, what if that growl was a call to his lost family, or what if he had daggers as teeth and swords as claws to protect himself? Not so evil then. Just a lone wolf trying to survive in the world. In the wood. Where everything starts for everyone, and where it all ends. It all happens in the wood. That Little Red Riding Hood thought the forest was a happy, warm place. Which, yes, it can be. But, we all know that trees have layers. And so does the wood.

In this particular story, in order to understand the wolf, which, sadly was so turned into a monster that he was not even given a name, we need to understand the forest, because, as you see, the forest is the reason for all the happenings of wood and the little village it surrounds. The wood is everything, and nothing at all, it is complex beyond imagination, but as simple as the fact that trees will make a forest. It is as deadly as a blade held against your neck, but it's embrace Is as soothing as a nightingale's song. It gives you knowledge more than the greatest scientists could tell you, but tricks you more than a thousand lies.

The story of the forest must be told before the wolf gets justice. This tale begins before words were even given a name, so long ago that time cannot even remember it.

       Luckily, I can.

Call me a hag if you will, see if I care. But I remember when these trees were saplings. I remember when the wrong footfall would mean one less tree in the forest. I remember, because I was there. I was there when it all began. How do I know?

        I planted the first seed.
