   Y/N'S POV

Erik leaned in for a kiss, and I ducked grabbing my cup of coffee off the counter.

Erik groaned and said,"Y/N, why are you doing this today? I have to get to the gym early, and I just want a kiss from you."

I replied,"Well, I guess you better get to the gym then before your friend takes your favorite spot. It looks like you won't be getting a kiss before you go."

Erik just looked at me, and I just sipped my coffee slowly.

Erik rolled his eyes before he said,"Girl, let me know when you're done trying to be funny."

Erik jogged up the stairs and out of my sight, and that was when I rushed out to the garage to get my personal gift for Erik. Erik had been trying to fix one of his old cars, and he had been having a hard time finding one of the parts.
It took me a long time to find the part, but I did, and I was going to surprise Erik. I grabbed the gift, yet someone was calling me.

  I said,"Hello?"

Immediately, I put Erik's gift down before I could drop it.

Tears formed in my eyes, and I said,"Okay. Thanks for telling me."

I heard Erik calling my name, and I was trying my hardest not to throw up. I walked back inside the house and stopped a few feet away from Erik.

Erik said,"Where did you go? You're always trying to scare me about something. Are you trying to run away with my money? Do you have it?"

I knew Erik was joking, but the last thing I wanted to right now was laugh.

Erik walked up to me and cupped my face saying,"Baby, what's wrong?"

I let my tears fall against Erik's hands, and he said,"Y/N, please say something. What's wrong, baby?"

I began to sob and said,"My..My father's dead. His neighbor hadn't been able to get in contact with him and..and she went over to check on him. When she went inside, my father was..was on the floor. He..He was already gone."

Erik pulled me into his arms as I cried. I couldn't believe this had happened. What was I going to do without my father in my life? My father was my father, and he had always been there when I needed anything.

  I said,"I..I didn't even get to-"

Erik shushed me and led me over to the couch. He put me underneath him and held me. I didn't know how long Erik had held me, but I did know that I had been to so many funerals in my life. Now, this one was going to be for my father.

I couldn't go to him any longer, especially after I had had a rough day at work, because he..he wouldn't be there waiting for me.

   A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER...

   Y/N'S POV

I was thankful to everyone that had shown up for my father's funeral. I knew that my father meant a lot to many other people, but this..this still didn't feel real. It felt like it was a bad dream that I had been in for a long time now.
Long after everyone had left, I still hadn't left. It was like I couldn't move. It was like if I left, then I would be forced to relive this moment all over again.

Erik walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around me.

I leaned into him as he said,"I'm not going anywhere, Y/N."

I said,"I know, Erik. Thank you for being here and just showing up."

Erik kissed my cheek saying,"You're welcome."

I looked back at Erik and asked him, with tears falling down my face,"Who's going to be next, Erik? Whose funeral am I going to have to sit through after this one?"

Erik stopped holding me and held my chin saying,"Y/N, whatever you're thinking, stop thinking about it. It won't help you, especially not during this very moment. Your father was an amazing man, but losing people is a part of life. It will hurt and it's going to hurt, but you shouldn't focus on who will be taken away from you next. It will only make the pain worse. Focus on this moment and try to get through this. And like I said, I'm not going anywhere. I'm here for you, even when you give me a hard time and scream at me for standing in front of the t.v."

I chuckled, before Erik continued to wipe my tears as he said,"You'll be okay. You'll get through this. I miss him too, Y/N. He was like a father to me. We'll both get through this. Do you believe me?"

I nodded, and Erik hugged me saying,"You won't be standing here at my funeral, okay?"

"Okay. So, if I move, will I have to sit through my father's funeral again?"

Erik shook his head saying,"No. You only had to sit through it one time, Y/N, but it will probably stick with you. You know, having to be here. If you move, you'll be with me, and I'll watch out for you."

Erik pulled away from the hug and took a couple of steps back from me. He held out his hand and watched to see what I was going to do next. I looked down at where I was currently standing and back at Erik, before I put my hand in Erik's hand.

Erik smiled and placed kisses on my hand, before he led me to the car.
