As soon as Mario finished speaking, everything good within myself left my body

As soon as Mario finished speaking, everything good within myself left my body. I couldn't breath, couldn't think properly and couldn't stand. I could feel my knees start to give out on me and two strong arms wrap around my waist to keep me from crumbling to the floor. No. There was no way that this was true. It had to be some kind of mistake, right? They were in London. Enjoying their time private time together. They were okay.

Massimo didn't say anything, just kept his arms around my waist and allowed for me to lean into him while I tried to collect my thoughts. I wanted nothing more than to cry in that moment. It didn't matter how happy and content I had been just moments before. The two people I loved the most in this world, the two people who loved me with everything they had wasn't okay.

"Where's Xavier?" I questioned quietly, moving to step away from Massimo and turning my attention to Mario.

I needed to think, to find out what happened. Massimo clouded my thoughts and as much distance as I could put between us, the better.

"He is in the sitting room. Alive, but weak."

I didn't think twice and quickly made my way to where he was, my brows furrowing together at the sight of the man. He was bloody, bleeding from his head and dirty. His knuckles showed signs of fighting and when he saw me, he tried to stand. I shook my head and moved to crouch down in front of him, taking his hands in my own.

"What happened, Xavier?"

He looked at me before his attention turned briefly towards the other men in the room. "L-au luat pe Gabriel." (They took Gabriel)

The fact that Xavier was speaking in Romanian told me that he didn't trust anyone in that room and I took a deep breath in, glancing down at the floor and exhaled it through my lips.

"Cine l-a luat?"(Who took him?) I questioned back, hoping that his answer wasn't anyone associated with Massimo or his family.

"Nu sunt sigur." (I'm not sure) He paused, adjusting himself in his seat with a quiet wince. "Erau rusi." (They were Russian)

I froze and slowly stood up, furrowing my brows together. I glanced over my shoulder at Massimo, letting my gaze linger before I looked to Mario. Was this all some sort of plan that Dimitri and Massimo conjured up? I began to get angry at the Italian man behind me and then angry at myself.

"Au spus ceva despre el?" (Did they say anything about him?) I asked quietly and turned around,  connecting my eyes to Massimo's. I knew what the answer would do to me if it turned out he was behind it all. Part of me had hope that I was wrong in my assumption, that Massimo had no idea what was happening. I was trying to prepare myself for the worst case.

"L-au pomenit, da." (They did mention him, yes.)

I sucked in a sharp breath through my nose and nodded my head slowly, glancing over my shoulder to Xavier before gripping my towel tighter around my chest.
