"How many nights do you think it would take to count the stars?"

The question slipped out of Kaede's mouth, capturing Kaito's attention. The two lay alongside each other on the open field, the long grass brushing against any exposed skin. Was it a safe idea? Being out in the open like this? Allowing their guard down for even a second? No; it was the same as a mouse walking into a trap.

Though as of this moment, neither could care about what their world has come to. The only thing either had cared about was the moment they were living in and all the stars in the sky. After all; you barely get one of these moments anymore, might as enjoy you while you can. You can never get them back.

"Pardon?" He asked, raising his slit eyebrow. His once milky skin was now a warm beige tone due to being outside for too long. His facial hair is being cut by his pocket knife since it's been getting tougher and harder to take care of, though he still had a little stub ("I don't look right with a baby face!"). His once gelded up spiky locks were now pulled back into a small ponytail.

This wasn't his favorite hairstyle per se, but it kept his hair from his lavender shade eyes to have a more superior range of sight to his surroundings. Kaito lies with his arms in front of them, his hands cradled together on top of his stomach. His legs were crossed at the ankles, so his combat boots were resting on top of one another.

He has worn a few pieces of clothing which included; his torn up purple jeans (He will likely replace them if they ever reach a clothing store.), his once-white shirt, and a jacket wrapped tight around his waist. His backpack (which was the alien from "Toy Story") was being used as his pillow. Though the bag was fairly lumpy from abandoned water bottles and his gun, it was better than the ground after all.

He was experiencing a reasonably decent life always on the run, though the feeling of dried blood and slick hair wasn't his favorite either. Kaede swayed her head from the left to the right, "Ah. Just forget about it."She dismissed the thought with a smile. Kaede's blonde locks were pulled back into a bun to make it harder to grasp her by the hair. She had lost her pastel pink vest sometime early during the madness, leaving her in just her button up.

Kaede had abandoned the skirt in the early days, taking leggings instead. She nevertheless had the white book bag (though it was associated with red and brown) that carried the food and her pocket knife. Kaito turned on so he was soon laying on his right side, glancing at Kaede. "No-no-no. You've captured my attention, Ms. Akamatsu. Now ask me your question again." He grinned. They didn't meet one another until months into the situation. There was a group of them. Including themselves, eight total.

A green-haired guy who seemed to have a grasp on the situation; A girl with twin brunette pigtails who wasn't afraid to knock a couple of heads together; A blonde hair who found ways to improve...everything; A short guy who was fast on his feet and knew how to lighten the mood; A big guy who seemed heartless, yet his heart was nothing but pure gold; And a navy haired boy who was very intelligent, yet kept quiet. That's how Kaede met Kaito.

For the first few months, the group was a huge success. Everyone was getting along, for the most part. They maintained a system that everyone would follow. It was delightful. Until a fight had broken out. Someone has been taking the food. Everyone was swift to point the finger at someone else. To prove their innocence. Turns out it was the swift one taking more than his portion of the food.

The night they discovered the truth, the swift one was gone. Along with all of their food and medicine. The first to pass away was the big one. He had slowly starved himself to make sure everyone else in the group could eat. Then the one with pigtails. It was her night for patrol and tried to use the experimental device the inventor made.
