The application, interview, hiring, and training process was shockingly fast for such a prestigious school. Principal Nezu informed you that due to recent developments, it was crucial that the position be filled as soon as possible. Lucky for you, you heard about the opening from a close acquaintance.
The job was a nice soft cushion in comparison to the rest of your resume. It paid well, it had retirement options, it had good hours, and it was a much-needed break. But there was a catch. While your official title was, "student counselor" the majority of your responsibilities would be to care for and work with a very special case.
A little girl with a very special quirk that needed special attention. While her current situation was improving, it was vital that she get the round the clock attention she needed. With your quirk and your past experience as a counselor/therapist for pro heroes, you were the perfect fit for little Eri.
Your training mostly consisted of training videos from decades ago that went over basic conduct and how the system at UA worked. Your new coworker Kayama, otherwise referred to as Midnight, gave you a tour and other basics like where you clock/out, the teacher's lounge, the teacher's showers, and locker rooms, the nurse's office, etc.
At the moment, the school was out for winter break, and the school was entirely void of students and the majority of staff. Things would be slow for the time being and Principle Nezu hoped that you would take this time to get to know Eri and you start getting to work on helping her adjust to everyday life. You were now to ease her onto society, Aizawa was there to help regarding her quirk.
You met Eri the very next day. Nezu and Aizawa thought it might be best to introduce you to her at breakfast, before having you go over a very simple lesson with her. Just to start slow and steady. Close to the teacher's lounge, a small part of the school was made into a small apartment they called "the nursery". Eri lived there for the time being and it was where you would do the majority of your work.
You took a deep breath as you stood outside the nursery door. You shifted your wait and tried to calm your nerves. What if she doesn't like you? What if it doesn't work out and you have to find a new job? What if you're not able to help her? What if she hates you?
"Don't be nervous," principle Nezu mused, "she's not all that scary, I promise."
"Oh, no- I know. I just hope I can help her is all."
"I have faith you will." The little thing looked up at you before sliding the door open. The nursery was more like a classroom that had been made into a living space for Eri. A small kitchen to one wall, her bed to the other. There were toys and a Tv, even video games for her. They did their best to dress it up for her.
Against a wall, facing away from the door, Eri sat. Her face staring up at the flashing lights of a Tv that played a children's morning program. She watched in silence as she half-hazard picked at his breakfast.
"Principle Nezu," a husky voice spoke, "good morning." Aizawa sauntered over to the two of you. His gaze shifted from you to Nezu and back to you.
"Eraser, this is Y/L/N Y/F/N, the new student councilor and caretaker I spoke with you about."
"Pleasure to meet you." You spoke softly and held out your hand. You knew of Eraserhead, in fact, you'd seen him in action before. Once when you and a few friends were walking home at night, you watched him pass by in a rush to catch a villain. You had no idea he was this attractive in person. He looked down at your hand, took it in his, and gave a firm shake before dropping it back to his side.
"Aizawa Shouta. Nice to meet you." His face showed little to no expression. Bags hung from his bloodshot eyes. He looked back at Eri as Nezu spoke.
"How is she this morning?"
"She's fine, a little tired. She hasn't been sleeping well the past few nights. The night terrors are getting worse." Aizawa spoke as you entered the nursery and closed the door behind you. You watched Nezu slowly approach her.
"Good morning Eri." He hummed. The girl turned her head to look at him before responding.
"Oh, good morning Mr. Nezu. What are you doing here?"
"I have a friend I'd like you to meet," Nezu gestured for you, "she's very nice and she's going to help you with your lessons today." You walked over and sat down beside Nezu. You gave Eri and calm smile before speaking.
"Hello Eri, it is nice to meet you. My name is Ms. Y/L /N and I'll be helping you with your lesson today." Eri looked up at you for a moment but turned back to the Tv when she was done with the eye contact.
"Mr. Aizawa won't teach me today?" She asked sadly. You sighed.
"Not today, but he'll be here to help out if we need. Does that sound good to you?" You asked her with a calming smile. She looked back up at you.
"Okay."
"Okay, let's go sit at the table now, c'mon, I have a feeling you'll like the lesson today." You took her to the table and sat down as you placed the thick binder on the surface. The little girl's tired eyes starred off into the distance as she slouched over the table.
"Eri, sit up straight please," Aizawa asked her in his flat affect. She looked at him and adjusted herself. "Thank you. Please give Ms. Y/L/N your attention." She looked up at you with a wide, determined gaze. It made your heart flutter wildly. The way she looked at you, so sweet, but so scary. What if you messed this up?
"Well, Eri, I just have one question for you." You smiled down at her.
"What?"
"Do you like, Butterflies?" You asked her as you opened the lesson book to a big and brightly colored page decorated with the bugs. She gasped and all her attention went on the book in front of her.
The lesson went well, you got along well, and she was a very good student. She was soft and quiet, but fierce in spirit. The little butterfly wings you brought for her blew her mind. She wore them for the rest of the day. During a quiet moment after her lunch, where she could sit and watch tv, Nezu pulled Aizawa and you aside.
"Well, I'd call this an undeniable success." He smiled.
"What's the plan from here on out?" Aizawa asked him as he crossed his arms.
"Well, for now, we'll continue to work around your pro hero schedule. Only now we'll have another caretaker to take over for you so Eri never feels she's left alone. Y/L/N, we'll keep you updated on your new schedules as soon as we know."
"What happens when classes start again?" You asked him.
"Yes, that will be a challenge to schedule. We will still need Aizawa around to help in case her quick activates. But we haven't had any incidences for a while now. Aizawa's training appears to be helping her quite a lot. Take these for now."
"Pagers?"
"In case you need help! If Eri has an outburst, you'll be able to call each other for back up at any time."
"Sounds good to me." You smiled back at the little principle.
