--Prologue--
The darkness surrounding me is suffocating. I never liked the dark, and I never will. Many people are afraid of darkness, and they have good reason. Darkness is a void that can conceal anything and everything, good or bad. If one isn't careful, the darkness can be one's demise.
I start to hear sounds, and my body instantly stiffens with fear. I shouldn't be fearful - I am immortal. Still, something in me knows something is wrong. The sounds start to come closer, and I recognize them as bare feet against hardwood floors.
Suddenly, my vision is overwhelmed with light. My eyes quickly adjust and my body relaxes, although in my mind, I am still tense and wary. I see that I am in the living room of a relatively nice house, and the cause of the noise is a young man.
I can see the kitchen where the young man has turned on the lights, partially lighting the room I am in. The young man starts to open the fridge in search of food, and most of the cabinets in the kitchen. I can't tell who this particular young man is, because every time his face is in my vision, it seems blurry and I can't make out any recognizing features. Still, my surroundings seem eerily familiar but I can't seem to think of where I could be.
I try to reach out to him and say something. However, nothing comes out of my mouth, not a sound. I instantly start to panic again. Why can't I talk? I move into the kitchen to put a face on this mysterious man. My hand reaches forward to touch his shirt and get his attention, as his back is turned towards me, but my fingers pass through him just as though he is a ghost.
My heart starts to beat so rapidly I think it will burst from my chest. I slowly back up as a feeling of foreboding comes over me. Something is wrong, so very wrong, but I don't understand. I have a big puzzle, but have lost all the pieces.
Why is the only question that comes to my mind. Who he is doesn't seem to matter anymore, I just need to know why. Why can't I see his face, touch him, talk to him. Why?
Out of the corner of my eye, I can see another figure concealed in the darkness, welcoming it as a friend. The figure seems to either ignore me, or he can't see me, because he creeps out of the darkness and goes past me into the kitchen.
I can't tell who this person is either, but not because their face is fuzzy, like the man in the kitchen, but because their whole being is covered in black. All I can see are two bright greens eyes, much like a cat's, but a lot more menacing.
As the black clad figure stealthily creeps behind the unknown man, I find pieces of the puzzle slowly. I start to realize why I felt such fear, because I was unknowingly fearing for the man.
The dark figure takes a knife off the counter, a big butcher's knife, and brings it down upon the man. He plunges the knife deep in the man's chest repeatedly. I cower in a corner as I watch in fear. The strange figure wearing black, decides the man has had enough after many stabs and lets him drop to the floor. He drops the knife in the sink and leaves hastily.
I quickly go over to where the man is lying on his kitchen floor, but all I can do is watch as the unknown man dies. Deep, dark crimson liquid pools around the man and I know it's blood. Too much blood.
As he takes his last breath, and the last drop of life-giving crimson liquid leaves his body, the last piece of the puzzle I was missing slips into place as I finally am able to see his face. My heart stops as I recognize the man.
It is the one I have watched over for years.
It is my Niall.
------------
Hey guys! I finally got the prologue up!
This is definitely a cause for celebration.
This idea has been with me for a loooooong time. I actually started writing this story in 2013 under the title, "The Protector". However, school happened, I had a major case of writer's block that lasted basically a year, I felt no inspiration to write, my writing wasn't all that great, and my plot holes were so big you could drive a semi through them.
So, I ended up deleting it from wattpad, but I couldn't stand the idea of never having finished it. So two years later, armed with plans, better writing, and inspiration, I am back to write a bigger and better version of my story. I also changed some of the plot and things of that nature so it is not the same story.
Give my baby some love by voting and commenting. :)
