It was midnight and Mikayla was getting ready for bed, Avery, Hermione, and Mikayla were sharing the bathroom as they brushed their teeth, Ginny was straightening her hair in preparation of being reunited with Harry. "She's dating Dean but she's in love with Harry?" Avery asked, Mikayla and Hermione nodded at the brunette's question, "we encouraged her to date someone, so Harry can see her as a potential girlfriend and not just his best mates little sister." Mikayla informed Avery, who nods understandably, "so she doesn't like Dean?" "Oh no, she does! That way if Harry doesn't come to his senses, she'll still be happy." Avery nodded once again this time at Hermione's information.
"Speaking of coming to their senses, are you going to tell Ron that you are in love with him?" Avery asks Hermione, who almost chokes as she brushes her teeth, "um no, I can't, it could ruin our friendship." Mikayla scoffed at Hermione's point, "Hermione, the boy likes you but is too oblivious to admit it." Avery explains her sister's scoff, Hermione blushed and went to defend Ron, before there was a sound of an owl hooting and Ron saying Harry. "Is that an owl I heard?" Mikayla questions as she looks over the railing, with Avery and Hermione by her side. "You haven't seen him have you? Apparently he's wondering around the house?" Ginny questioned from downstairs, "really?" Hermione questioned, "really." A voice came from behind Ginny.
Everyone excitedly made their way down the stairs and into the sitting room to greet Harry. Ginny gave him a hug, before Hermione interrupted their sweet little moment to hug Harry, then Mikayla hugged him, next Ron, then Avery and finally Mrs Weasley. Ron stood in between Mikayla and Hermione and in front of Avery and Ginny as they watched Mrs Weasley interact with Harry. Ron went to wipe toothpaste off Hermione's chin with his hand before he notice everyone was looking at him. He lowered his hand, "you've got a bit of toothpaste." Hermione chuckled nervously, as she blushed. Mikayla, Ginny and Avery share a knowing look.
"Are you hungry, Harry?" Mrs Weasley asked the boy, "no Mrs Weasley, I ate before Dumbledore came to get me." Molly nodded, "right off to bed you lot, Harry you're rooming with Ron as usual." Mrs Weasley told everyone to go to bed, but the foursome all made their way up to Ron's room to catch up with Harry. The foursome sat in a circle around a table in Ron's room, Mikayla and Hermione shared a blanket, wrapped around their legs because they were cold. "So when did you get here?" Harry asked Hermione, "about 8 hours ago." Harry nodded saying that's good that he hasn't't missed too much.
"How did the muggles treat you?" Mikayla asked Harry, "same as usual. They didn't talk to me much, but I like it better that way." Mikayla nodded accepting Harry's answer, "how are all of you?" Harry asked, he makes eye contact with Mikayla, "alright yeah." Mikayla smiles sadly, and brings her attention to picking the rogue fluff off the blanket. "I've been good." Hermione smiled, "yeah, me too." Ron smiled, "but whats been going on?" Ron asked Harry, "Nothing much, I've just been stuck at my aunt and uncle's, haven't I?" Harry responded causing Ron tell him to come off it and reminded Harry that he has just been off with Dumbledore. Harry informed them that he just went to try and persuade an old teacher to come back and teach at Hogwarts.
It wasn't long before Mikayla and Hermione wished the boys goodnight and headed back to their room on the second floor. Hermione fell asleep almost instantly, Mikayla didn't have such luxury, the blonde decided to sit in the bay window and look out at the night sky. Tomorrow is the second Saturday of July, and if Seamus' mum was telling the truth, Mikayla, Harry, Avery, Ron and Hermione will be receiving their OWL results.
Mikayla was nervous to say the least, they might not still be around but she wanted to prove herself to her parents, prove to them that she's someone they could proud of. It was a pressure Mikayla had put on herself, she hoped if she passed everything that she could sleep at night and not be haunted by possible disappointment. "Go to bed M." Avery's voice came from behind her causing Mikayla to jump violently, "can't. nervous." Avery grumbled out of bed, "drink this?" Mikayla sniffed the golden potion, "what is it?" She asked Avery, "sleeping potion, I said it to Mum that you were having problems sleeping, she told me next time you're struggling give you this." Mikayla chugs the solution, reminding Avery that she might sleep but she can't guarantee that she won't have night terrors. Avery walks the blonde over to bed, tucking her in and giving her a kiss on the forehead before humming the tune of a lullaby that Enya used to sing to the girls when they were little. Avery gently caressed Mikayla's nose with her bent pointer finger, and Mikayla was almost immediately asleep.
Avery waited until she heard soft snores before she moved into her own bed, making sure Mikayla was in a deep sleep and she wouldn't wake her up as she climbed under her own covers. Avery is worried for the blonde, her sleeping schedule is all over the place and Mikayla chooses that staying awake all night is easier than sleep. Mikayla does eventually fall asleep due to pure exhaustion, and Avery would tuck her into bed once she heard the blonde's head fall against the window.
Avery had become a very light sleeper since the 18th of July, mainly because she was in Slytherin house and she was an outcast there. They called her staleblood and a blood traitor, when they when referring to her whilst in the common room. She hadn't told anyone about it of course, she wanted everyone to focus on Mikayla and Harry because of everything that's happened to them since the starting at Hogwarts. Avery also knew that she's going to have to tell Mikayla eventually, just because Mikayla would be so upset with her for keeping this as a secret. Avery knew how protective Mikayla is over her friends, and she thinks that Mikayla and her finally have a good relationship, that she's considered one.
Avery remembers the times she used to taunt her sister and her Gryffindor friends. How cruel she was to them just so she could impress Malfoy, who would tell his father about how great she was and how Fergal would then praise her for being a proper O'Brien unlike her sister. Fergal couldn't wait until he could strip Mikayla from the family name, not that Mikayla had any objections to it considering she was happy to be know as Black, after her real father. It saddened Avery to never get to meet Sirius Black, from the stories she's overheard from the order, she thinks that they would've gotten along even with the house rivalry.
Sirius was a black sheep in his family, first ever Gryffindor in a bloodline of strictly Slytherins. Avery remembered Fergal yelling at Enya once when they were little, he was giving out about Mikayla's hair being in a ponytail instead of a pretty braid, as the ponytail made her look like the 'commonwealth'. He told her that he blamed her parentage for having a staleblood. Avery always thought Fergal was calling Enya a staleblood, but once she got all the information she could get she concluded that he was speaking about Sirius. She remembered the echo of the slap Enya gave Fergal for using the term and saying he'll not talk about her daughter like that again. Enya didn't know that the next day, Fergal gave Mikayla a beaten, the beaten that Avery stopped before he killed her or drove her mad. The worst beating of Mikayla's life.
