Sleep never came to me, no matter how badly I wished it would

Sleep never came to me, no matter how badly I wished it would. I couldn't seem to still my mind enough or get comfortable. Instead I watched the sun rise on my balcony, chugging coffee like it was water. I kept trying to tell myself that everything would be okay, that I wasn't potentially walking into something that was going to get me killed. There were even a few times my mind traveled to Massimo and what he was doing, but then I remembered he was apart of this and forced myself to forget him, even if just for the time being.

After receiving a text from Dimitri, I met him at the Champagne Bar located in the Eiffel Tower. I opted for water as I waited, my blue and brown eyes scanning around searching for him. He was late, but that wasn't much of a surprise. Xavier had wanted to join me, to blend into the crowd of people but I refused to let him. He decided to stay with Ms. Victoria while I was meeting with Dimitri. I had plans to see her after I was done.

My anxiety was almost through the roof until I heard the ever annoying Russian accent from the man that I wanted nothing else to do with. I turned and looked at him, trying my best to not let any emotions play out over my face.

"An ugly duckling turned into a swan." He laughed at his own joke.

I rolled my eyes, lounging back in the seat and crossed my legs. "We're here to talk about business, not my looks."

Dimitri made a face and pulled out one of the chairs beside me and sat down. I glanced around idly, making a mental note that he did indeed, not come alone. He wouldn't do something as foolish as make a scene surrounded by people, would he? Surely not.

"As you wish. How is Ms Victoria?"

I narrowed my eyes and clenched my hands together, feeling my nails bite into the flesh of my palms. He said it for a reaction. To see me cause a scene of my own. I refused to and let out a quiet breath before chuckling.

"Where's Gabriel?" I retorted back.

"He's safe. You will get him back, do not worry."

Don't worry? Was that really what we were going with? How could I not worry about him? He was an elderly man who was possibly hurt. For all I knew, he was already dead, but that wasn't a thought I wanted to get to yet.

"I give him back, you preform tasks for me when I need them."

I scoffed in disbelief. I wasn't going to be his own personal thief who waits on his beck and call for jobs that I wasn't going to get paid for. He was going to bleed me dry and make it impossible for me to actually get any work. There was no way this was going to work for me, but I wasn't going to let him know that. Not to mention that it also meant Massimo would want me to do things for him, but I doubted his tasks would have anything to do with me stealing.

"You mean you and Massimo."

He snorted and waved a hand. "What does Massimo have to do with this? This is for me, not him."
