The greatest thing you will ever learn is just to love and be loved in return
Moulin Rouge. Classic movie, star-crossed lovers, freedom, beauty, truth and love, lots of crying, lots of drama and a couple of deaths. You know that old pinecone. My nose was buried in the script for the movie as I walked down my high school corridor; yeah I read movie scripts in my free time. What of it? I was just up to the part when Christian decides that he and Satine needed an epic love song so that they know whatever happens their love will be eternal. May I just note that Christian decides that he loves Satine not within an hour of first laying eyes on her? That type of love never exists, no matter how many people claim it does. I felt something hard knock against my shoulder and I fell to the floor
“Watch it freak,” I heard a voice say from a distance. I scrambled to grab the script that had flown out of my hands on impact. I got to my feet and continued to walk to my locker, I get comments like that all of the time, I wasn’t your usual popular, pretty, booby girly girl. I was the girl with a blonde, corkscrew curl, birds nest resembling head of hair that hung down around my mid back. I wore terracotta skinny jeans and black combat boots, knit jumpers that were three sizes too big for me and hung of off my tiny frame. My t-shirts were either plain in color or had some vintage band or movie on them. I spent most of my time in the film department and I had a total of two friends if you counted my film teacher, if not than make a total of one. I’m perfectly content with being the schools invisible locker girl. The girl who somehow manages to blend in perfectly with the horrid colored metal lockers in the hall ways she walked through every day. I’d grown to love my outcast-ness and I wasn’t going to change who I was for the stupid society that is high school.
I reached my locker, I opened it and grabbed my books for my next class and shoved them in my brown leather side bag. My locker shut without me touching it
“Hey Walker,” I said to the boy that had just shut my locker.
“Hello Avalon, looking gorgeous as always,” he said to me. Walker is my best friend; Walker is my only friend to be completely truthful. Again unless you count my film teacher Mrs. Dawson. He smiled at me and I took in what he was wearing, beige chinos, a blue and white stripped top and red vans. Walker had been my friend since pre-school when he mashed bright green play dough into my blonde curls. We had always been really close but we were complete opposites, he was an extrovert and I was as much of an introvert as you could get. We started to walk to film class which thankfully I had a double period of today. I held my script to my chest and Walker said
“Moulin Rouge, hey Avalon?” he smirked at me
“So what? It’s a classic movie and you know it’s one of my favorite non-horror movies,” I said with a smile of my face
“Do you know what we’re studying in film class? I left my notebook at home.”
“We’re studying Stephen Spielberg’s directing tactics and watching Jurassic park.” I said simply.
“Are you still coming to sleepover tomorrow night?” he asked putting his arm around my shoulder. I leant into his shoulder
“Of course Walker. Have you got mac and cheese?” I asked with a smile on my face
“And chocolate and bacon. Have you got the movies?” he asked laughing
“Of course. Is that a rhetorical question?” I said with a laugh.
“Hey, you’re laughing. That’s a good thing!” he said as we entered the film room. We walked to our usual seats in the middle of class. Mrs. Dawson was sitting at her desk in the front of the class, she saw us enter and her face lit up.
