5 ~
Life for Kikyo moved slowly now, the months seemed to go by like a snail moving from one side of a field to the other. There was no more frequent visits by Obito, no more training with him or talking to him about his missions or how training with his team went. The Ito home and shrine seemed so much quieter, one would fear that Kikyo would go insane from the deafening silence that was no longer broken by the young Uchiha that often frequented the space.
The only new occurrence that Kikyo looked forward to were the visits by a pregnant Mikoto Uchiha and her son Itachi. She wasn't far along by any means but it was noticeable and from what Kikyo could gather from her talks with Itachi, he was excited to have a younger sibling. Kakashi also frequented the shrine; once every other week if he wasn't on a mission he would stop by and have dinner. In a way, it was like having an extension of Obito with her but it wasn't the same, they both knew that. Dinners were quiet but Kikyo did what she could to hear about his missions like she used to with Obito.
By the one and a half year mark, a lot of things changed for the worst and the best. One day, Kakashi just stopped visiting all together and Kikyo worried about what had happened. She thought that maybe Kakashi didn't want to be around her anymore for whatever reason. Maybe he had died on a mission or maybe he took on one too many missions and didn't have time for her anymore. It wasn't until Minato and Kushina had stopped by one evening when she had found out that Rin had died on a mission with Kakashi and he was taking it very hard and was punishing himself. He was also rising through the ranks and was working his way to becoming an ANBU. But that wasn't all that had happened in the past year and a half. Mikoto had given birth to a healthy baby boy - Sasuke Uchiha was his name. Named after the Third Hokage's father. The Third Hokage had stepped down and named Minato as his successor and Kushina was expecting!
It seemed like everyone was moving and growing as the days went by and all Kikyo could do was watch.
"Please, Kikyo, you have to run! Kota will carry you back to the village."Inoko had called out as he dodged a sharp punch from an enemy ninja.
"What, are you crazy?! I'm not running away!"
Inoko had stabbed the enemy in the skull before running over to Kikyo, picking her up and putting her on the back of his large companion hound, Kota. Kota was caked in blood, his fur was matted and dirty from battle but nobody seemed to care. Kikyo was doing all that she could to not vomit as her eyes raced around the scene, bodies covered the ground. There were enemies dead on the ground but so was the rest of their team. Misaki was ripped to shreds by the enemy for fun after he had been killed and Yazuka had sacrificed herself to get rid of most of the enemy group. Neither Inoko nor Kikyo were fairing well and there were still a handful of enemies to take care of.
"You need to make it back to the village and report what we've found. I'll hold and finish them off and follow you, okay? But you have to go, NOW!" Inoko began unwrapping the bandages on his arms to reveal bright red tattoos covering both his arms in a mirror pattern. As he did this, he secured his pack onto Kota; the extra weight did nothing to the canine, being trained to carry bodies of varying weights and sizes.
"I can't leave you, Inoko - !"
Kikyo and Inoko ducked as a sea of kunai were thrown at their heads, Inoko quickly stood up and brandished three kunai in each hand before throwing them. Inoko moved and pressed his forehead to Kota and Kikyo before telling the large dog to run as fast as he could back to the village and turned his back to the two. Kikyo shouted out in shock as Kota began running away from the battle causing her to grasp tightly at his fur as to not fall off. She turned back to see Inoko's arms glowing a bright red before being engulfed in it and the light becoming too bright to look at. As Kota ran through the forest, Kikyo cried and sobbed loudly as she willed for Inoko to be safe and catch up to them. But her heart stopped and her eyes widened at the sound of a large explosion in the direction they were running from. Kota howled loudly, sounding broken but he continued to run and even ran faster than before.
