Milo was getting impatient as they continued to wait for the fireworks, Sage suggested going on a walk as she watched him bounce his long legs up and down relentlessly.
Which is how they found themselves walking along the canals, no one else in sight as everyone was on the other side of the neighborhood. Milo looked down at Sage's hand swinging by her side, he decided to man up a bit. Yanking his hand out of his hoodie and intertwining it with her soft small one. Sage had to try really hard to act as if it was no big deal but both of the teens had smiles on their faces."So.. I was thinking.. Um when you start classes next month, maybe we could hang out? I could you show you around the city, Columbia is pretty close to NYU." Milo bit his lip, waiting for her reply. He didn't know what it was that just made him so nervous maybe the fear of rejection. His dating life had gone so terribly lately he figured there was no way it would suddenly get better, especially when a girl as gorgeous as Sage came into his life. It was crazy he had only known her for a day and was already making plans to see her when they both got settled in. School was starting in six weeks, his flight back was in five.
"Really? I mean if your not too busy, I think I would really like that." Sage smiled even wider, shyly tucking a piece of her dark hair behind her ear. Since when am I shy? She thought, remembering how earlier she was practically licking frosting off his face.
"And maybe I could take you out to dinner... Maybe get a do over on that first kiss." Wow look at him trying to be smooth..
"Well the dinner part sounds wonderful but a do over? Was the first one really that bad?"
"No not at all, but I'd like a chance to do it right. I just got a little too excited about having a really attractive girl in my room, wearing my clothes and I thought I wouldn't ever see you again..." Milo felt the heat creep up his neck and onto his cheeks, he was rambling. He took a sharp breath feeling Sage's hand cup his cheek forcing him to meet her eyes.
"You don't have to keep explaining yourself and apologizing you know?" Her soft, gentle voice was so reassuring. How was she only seventeen?
"But you know I don't think I'll be wanting a redo this fall.." His eyes dropped from hers, great she's rejecting me.
"Milo?" Sage asked expectantly, she had to hold back her laugh as she realized he didn't pick up on her huge hint.
"Yeah?"
"Kiss me." The boy looked confused, she could clearly see him paying back the conversation in his head. A look of realization on his features as the light bulb went off.
"Oh! Wait hold on.." He tugged on Sage's hand willing her to follow as he took long strides with his long legs. She looked at him incredulously, before laughing as he had dragged her to the middle of one of the nearby white bridges over the canals.
"Hey not everyone gets a do over!" Milo laughed before pulling her close, they both stopped giggling as his nose brushed hers. She hadn't even realized just how close he had gotten. Her hands gripped the material of his hoodie tighter, afraid that he would change his mind or think she was a mistake..
"You know from the moment you walked in, I haven't been able to get rid of these god damn butterflies.." She dipped her head into his chest, letting out a cute laugh."I've been calling mine bombs, they feel too wild to be butterflies..." Sage couldn't help but trail off as she pulled back, Milo's brown orbs were full of wonder and he had a small smile on his lips. He was in awe, she felt them too?
Milo couldn't take it anymore, his large hand cupped the back of her neck pulling her in as close as he could. Bending over just enough to capture her mouth with his, his free arm wrapping around her waist pulling her body oagainst his. Sage squeezed her eyes shut at the sensation, like a rocket her heart soared. His slightly chapped, plump lips moved skillfully against hers. Wanting the kiss to be one she'd never forget. He moaned into her mouth when she moved her hands from clutching his hoodie to his hair. Lightly tugging the strands as she felt her stomach go wild, adrenaline pumping through her veins.A sudden explosion echoing over their heads forced them apart. The teens stared in awe as red, white and blue sparks lit up the sunset filled sky, more explosions following.
Fireworks.
"They weren't butterflies.." Milo turned back hearing Sage murmur under her breath. "Huh?"
"They were never butterflies, they were fireworks." She smiled wider as Milo grinned in realization, he pulled her even tighter against his chest.
"Baby your a firework." The tall boy murmured before his lips molded back against the soft, plump ones of the girl in his arms. She giggled against his mouth, forgetting altogether about calling him out for quoting a Katy Perry song. Instead she leaned on her toes and melted further into his lips as fireworks continued exploding over their heads."Maybe a reason why all the doors are closed
So you can open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow
And when it's time, you'll know
You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July.."
