This species of parrot is known to be flightless. They get around pretty easily, even though they can't fly. Also is a type of owl. Kakapo are nocturnal and they weigh up to 4.4 or 8.8 lbs if male, and females or most weighing up to 0.95 to 4 kg. Nearly up to nine pounds. Males are larger. They are part of the Super-Family called Strigopoidea. They are in New Zealand. Maybe other parts but who knows where this flightless owl-parrot bird may be. The average life span is up to 95 years for these rare birds. Their in the class of Aves and also in the Animal Kindom of Animalia. Known as a kingdom that includes all animals. This bird has colors from green to vomitish greenish yellow to all sorts, has big feet, distinctive facial disc that gives it a parrotish owl look, short wings and tail, big beak, and short legs. The height is around 60 cm. The scientific name for this bird would be Strigops Habroptilus. Also they are Endangered, with about 210 living Kakapo's. They are all name tagged on all four islands. Not to mention that all islands have been cleared of predators like cats, rats, ferrets, and stoats(they have been removed from the area). The diet of the Kakapo consists of vegetables. So they eat berries, leaves, buds, and etc. In that category. There is a program that helps the Kakapos, the cost is a whopping $100,000. Also the mating ritual of this bird is very weird. They do everything slowly to try to attract a female. They will inflate to the size of a basketball!!! Then make loud, low frequency sounds that can be heard three miles away, another cool thing is that it sounds like a fog horn. The weird part is that they will continue to do this for up to eight hours every night, for three months.
