CHAPTER SIX: THE ILLUMINATION (PART TWO)

That night I could hardly sleep. It was excitement, fear, you name it. I was the first one ready the next morning; followed by Skyler, Jake, dad and the rest. For everyone else it was job that paid their bills, but it was so much more for me, it was whole new beginning.

My expectations were being washed down the drain as I further walked into the narrow corridor of the subterranean chamber. Firstly, it was extremely hot and stuffy. Secondly, the constant feeling being watched as I walked further down into the chamber was very uncomfortable. There were constant hustles and echoes following us all along the way.

I stopped in my tracks as I thought I heard a whisper. It echoed.

"You hear that?" I asked Jake, who was right beside me at that time.

"Hear what?" Jake looked at me confused. There were all sorts of whispers.

I was about to say something when Aisha called us. We were at the subterranean chamber and we were told to take areas in groups of twos. Jake and I paired up and decided to investigate the southern wall and the southern side.

I jumped when the voice came back and this time I could actually figure out what it was saying. It was asking me to follow it.

"You seriously don't hear that Jake?" I whispered, holding my brush.

He shrugged. I decided to ignore it, it was probably my mind playing tricks on me. It was old and dusty. I walked towards the southern wall and after a careful brushing of about 2 hours at different spots. A small piece shone on the wall, Jake and I spent another  fifteen minutes brushing and cleaning the wall to reveal what the wall looked like.

"Bembridge was right after all." Jake laughed.

Everyone gathered near the Southern wall and started doing their assigned works. Dad and I were the only one's that could fully understand and speak ancient Egyptian, so we took up on deciphering the inscription on the wall. Figuring stuff out from ancient broken hieroglyphics is not everyone's cup of tea. It takes time and patience. The technical problems aside, there was another major challenge, its meaning or significance. Is it the same or has the course of history changed it's significance over time?

The sun slowly started setting. We took pictures of the walls so we could work on it more at the base camp. Pyramids are creepy after sunsets, that's what  dad told me in bedtime stories.

"We should head out soon, pyramids gets creepy after sunsets." I said, there are a lot of stories behind the expeditions although none of the stories true. Everyone packed up and was about to leave when Sam noticed Emma missing.

"Emma" Sam shouted, "Where the hell are you?" We looked for Emma but she was nowhere to be found.

"Emma's missing" I said, looking at Dad then Skyler.

"I found her" Jake shouted, "Northern side"

After dinner,

"Is Emma all right?" I asked Skyler. He nodded.

"Bumped her head somewhere" He said, "There a light scratch. A day's rest will do wonders for her, Alix."

Emma and I shared the same tent. Skyler waited at the entrance and lifted up the curtain for me, "Good night, senora!" he smiled!
