Once the boat docked in the Old Fort the guys on that side helped her unload all the baggage she had, putting it in the back of a large side by side, then one of them, Bill, gave her a ride to the house. He was very friendly and helpful as everyone had been so far, and she thanked him for the help.
After getting all the bags unloaded and inside the house, she set to work making supper for the six guys. She didn't have many groceries so sub sandwiches and chips would have to do, but she was sure they'd enjoy it anyways. She put the containers into a cooler and took the quad down to the dock. Asking who had said they wanted dinner, she handed out sandwiches to three of the guys on land and the captain, then got a ride back down to the Taylor boat launch. She found one guy who had asked for supper, but didn't see Greyson anywhere. While she was waiting she went to her truck and grabbed her phone charger that she had forgotten, then locked it up again. She saw Greyson jump out of his truck and jogged over.
"Hey," she said, handing him the container with a couple large sandwiches, a bunch of chips and some carrots.
"Thank you," he said, glancing at the contents.
"Can't forget the vegetables," he commented, laughing.
"Nope, sorry."
"Nah, its fine," he said, laughing. He handed her a company business card with his name and number on the back. "Just in case you ever miss a boat again."
"Thanks," she said, tucking into her pocket. "Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow."
"Every day for the next two weeks," he said.
Alanna laughed. "Alright. See ya." She headed down to the boat and got back on, joining another passenger who was headed home as well.
Once they docked on the their side, most of the guys had finished their sandwiches already. They all thanked her as she walked by and she laughed.
When she got to the house she put her siblings' bags in their respective rooms, then went to unpack. Being an accountant, she could do a lot of work from home, so she pulled out her laptop and started working while she ate the sub she had made for herself. As she was looking through a list of deposits, she noticed something weird. Looking again, she squinted at the numbers on the screen. Super weird. She pulled out her phone and called her boss. Explaining what she saw, he thought it was weird as well.
"I think there's some things going on that we weren't supposed to notice," said Alanna.
"I think you're right," said Mike, her boss. "Just keep working as usual, and I'll do a bit of follow up."
"Okay. Thank you."
She hung up and sat her phone down, looking again at the list of numbers. What was going on there?
