A wave crashing into my body brings me back to reality.
I was so caught up with the nightmares that plague my mind daily that I had forgotten where I was. My sweat from the hot humid air causes my hair to stick to my face. I hear yelling from afar but I can't pinpoint whose voice I'm hearing. The voice seems to blend in with the chaotic voices of the crowd.
I'm lost in a daze. I know i should get out of the water but I'm afraid of what waits for me on the other side of this wave. I know I need to get out of the water and face reality. I, also, know I'll have to leave behind the only place that makes me feel calm. The water makes me feel like I was drowning but now I'm finally able to breathe.
Now, I'm alive. Eventually, later on, though, the water will have become a fear of mine.
But for now, it is my safe haven.
The only place that feels like home.
