"Louis wouldn't hit her, but I would."

I got to within a foot of her, hand raised and at the ready to deliver a harsh slap to her cheek, when I felt a hand close around my wrist from behind.

"That won't help, either," I heard Louis say quietly, voice shaking with, presumably, rage, "She could just say it was me who hit her, instead of you, and they wouldn't know any different."

I nodded, looking down, and he released my hand. I took a deep breath to clear the fog in my brain. I had come here to help Louis see reason, and yet it seemed as if he was the one with a clearer state of mind, at that moment in time.

For a few seconds, there was nothing but silence, as my mother's smug grin taunted me. She opened her mouth to say something, but just before any sound could come out, there was a sound of the front door opening.

"Oh, who have you brought along now?" she spat, and looked at me with her piercing eyes narrowed to slits.

"Chloe probably got curious and decided she wanted in on the fun," I muttered, not giving in to her harsh stare.

However, as footsteps approached the kitchen, I noticed they were far too heavy to be those of Chloe's. I looked towards the door and my eyes widened as I saw the figure of my father entering the room.

"Dad?" I questioned, as his eyes met mine, looking equally surprised.

"Oh," was all he said as he looked at the situation around him.

"I had come to talk to your mother but it seems you've got that covered," he said, before his eyes flitted behind me, to Louis, and widened even further.

"Wait, this is the infamous Louis that you've been telling me about?" he said in surprise, a small smile of what looked like recognition forming on his lips.

I looked between him and Louis, whose face had turned white.

"Do you two know each other?" I asked, frowning, as I looked back and forth between them.

My father opened his mouth to speak, but Louis was quick to shake his head and cut in with a firm, "No."

My father raised his eyebrows, but said nothing, and I sighed.

"Whatever, we'll sort this out later," I muttered tiredly, "but for now we have a shitty situation that needs to be sorted out."

My mother, who had stayed shockingly quiet for the last few minutes, decided to step in.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing here," she spat coldly, looking at my father.

I expected him to bite back with an insult or snide comment, but instead he just smiled a little, seemingly unfazed.

"I listened to that kind of talk throughout our marriage, why do you think it would have an impact on me now?" he responded to her.

"Anyway," he continued, without giving her a chance to reply, "I came here to talk some sense into you, or at least try. Trinity came to me when this all started and if I hadn't been married to you for so many years, I wouldn't have believed that you were seriously doing this. But, unfortunately, I was married to you for years and I know that you are, indeed, crazy enough to try something like this."
