It was a very rainy afternoon in Happy Tree Town, everyone was trying to get inside their houses or even try to find shelter somewhere to avoid the rolling thunder that came with the rain. The streets were mostly empty except for a few residents driving out in the rain to get to their houses but one resident, Handy wasn't driving to his house but instead somewhere else...
"Am I really doing this? Of course I am. I'm not going to risk my life getting electrocuted by this stupid-" before he finish his thought, thunder rumbled pretty loudly outside, he could hear it striking his ear causing him to flinch. His fur rose up like if a cat was hissing at a person trying to pick it up, his brain was all jumbled around like balls bouncing around, hitting the wall and floor every single minute. Handy tried to calm himself down by turning on the radio but it didn't help as it was being distorted thanks to the crappy weather. "We're almost to his place, Handy, just stay calm and try to survive." He reassured himself trying to make sure he doesn't freak out again because of the thunder, he glanced outside his window for a bit seeing the familiar field with weird looking trees companioning it that was near Russell's house, he and Russell usually would walk into the woods together just to get to a hidden lake that only a few people knew about just so they could fish together. Handy stopped the car once he arrived at Russell's house, it was a big pirate-shaped tree-house with an anchor outside the treehouse connecting to a rope that was tied around a huge branch and a ladder made out of ropes. Handy tried to climb onto the ladder but couldn't due to having no hands but he realized something that he could do to get into Russell's treehouse, Handy saw a cowbell being tied next to a circular window, of course the rope was long enough for anyone to grab onto the rope and ring the bell but it was a lot harder for someone with no hands to do it. Handy kept on jumping and chomping down on the air in case he did grab a hold of the cowbell with his teeth after so many times of biting on air, he finally got a grasp of the cowbell with his teeth and swung his body left and right, trying to get Russell's attention.
Ding-a-ding-ding!
The cowbell outside was getting more aggressive as seconds went by, Russell got annoyed, he got up from his hammock and walked outside, feeling the rain hitting his fur ever so comfortingly. He walked over by the ladder to see Handy dangling from the cowbell, he was surprised but yet it made him laugh. "What are you doing with that cowbell Handy?" He said trying so hard not to let out a laugh, his mouth was twitching as he didn't want to laugh at his boyfriend suffering, he then watched Handy plopped down on the wet grass and get up. "How about you stop laughing at me and help me!?" Handy raised his voice angrily at Russell, he was pretty ticked off by Russell laughing at him. Russell sent down a weird little basket that Handy usually have to get in just so he could go in Russell's treehouse, Handy climbed into the basket and sat in it. "It might take me a few minutes to get you up here due to the terrible rain we're having!" Russell shouted at Handy and began pulling. Handy was still terrified thinking about dying in this basket if Russell didn't pull fast enough, he looked around seeing lightning being struck down somewhere far away, it was pretty bright so he could see it clear as day, he flinched a little bit but not as badly as before in his car. It took Russell six minutes to get the basket up in his treehouse, he helped Handy get out of the basket as he felt dizzy from being in it."So, why did you come here in the first place?" Russell asked Handy, setting down a hot cup of coffee on the table for him to drink, Handy was wrapped around a towel still soaking wet from the rain. "Well I, I, uhm.. I guess I wanted to come here to get away from the rain..?" Handy sounded so unsure of what he was saying, all he could think of was the steaming hot coffee sitting in front of him with a straw put in there just for Handy since he can't pick up the mug. You should tell him.. tell him why you're here, you can trust him, he's your boyfriend after all. Handy started taking small sips from his coffee, it burnt his tongue a little bit, he ignored the pain as it didn't matter to him, all that matters right now is him, his feelings and Russell. "Hey Russell..? Can I tell you something?" Handy spoke out softly, he was kind of embarrassed to tell him about one of his deepest fears. Russell eyes jolted over to see Handy's eyes, he could tell that Handy was really nervous, his eyes kept staring outside the window, seeing lightning strike down from afar just made him jump a little bit. "You can tell me anything, Handy.." Russell gave Handy a warm look of trust and acceptance, Handy took a small breath in and out getting ready to say what he wanted to say. "I'm... Afraid of thunderstorms... I had a bad past with them, I don't really want to go full depth into it but it traumatized me..." Handy's breathing was slowly rising, he got anxious and embarrassed, his feet were hitting against each other to calm him down. "Well that's nothing to be ashamed of, being afraid of something isn't a bad thing, hell i'm terrified of tsunamis and I don't feel ashamed of it! We all got our fears and that's okay!" Russell walked over to Handy and sat near him, he wanted to reassure him it was okay to feel this way. Handy smiled slightly at his boyfriend, feeling a tiny bit better that he wasn't being judged for it, Handy took a sip out of his coffee again before he could talk again, feeling much more better than he was a few seconds ago. "Yeah, I guess you're right Russ! I guess it's nothing to be ashamed of!" Handy stared back at the window with courage but was soon greeted with lightning lashing down and thunder roaring, he hid underneath the table as he saw the lightning. "Hey, do you want to watch some TV while this goes on? It might distract you from this stupid thunderstorm." Russell asked Handy, staring at Handy trying to curl up in a ball to hide him away, Handy looked back up at Russell with tears in his eyes and nodded.
The two of them settled down on the ground setting a unused mattress on the ground with pillows and blankets for them to hide under and cuddle. They turned up the volume at the highest volume to drown out the thunder, Handy felt safe and comfortable at last, he couldn't care about what was going on outside anymore as long as Russell was near him then everything was fine. The two of them were getting sleepy, their hats were set on the ground as well, every five minutes one of them would yawn, and stretch trying to get comfortable. "Hey, Russ? I love you.." Handy leaned his head against Russell's shoulders, he yawned slowly, he was about to fall asleep. Russell stared at Handy, feeling glad that he helped Handy today expressing his feelings, all that he wanted was to make sure his boyfriend was okay, Russell kissed Handy's head. "Love you too..."
