Niko's POV:I growl as I get closer to the stupid tree. The tree I have grown to hate so much. I ignore all the surprised stares sent my way and go straight into the den.
I immediately head for the throne room where I know he will be.
"Move!" I hiss at the runt who slowly looks up at me.
"A-Alpha N-Nik-ko! Its b-been forever since I have seen y-you."
"Yes. You too, Parvus. Now move before I am the last thing you ever see," I growl.
"I am afraid I cannot do that A-Alpha."
"Why is that?"
"Anyone or thing that is a threat to the king's safety is not allowed near him."
"I suggest you get out. of. my. way. I am really trying not to hurt you, but I know what you did to my pet. I am not happy about it either," I say lowly, digging my claws into his shoulder.
His face shows a look of pain. "I do not know what you are speaking of," he grunts. "Ow, Alpha!"
I pull him closer by his bleeding shoulder. "If you so much as look at Lucas again I will rip your throat out,"
I growl in his ear. "Understand?"He nods his head with his eyes squeezed shut. I throw him behind me by his shoulder and continue to the throne room.
"Brother! What a pleasant surprise."
"I do not have time for your games, Aleam. Why?"
"I do not understand. Why what?" Aleam questions while turning around to face me. He has a stupid grin on his face.
"First you kill my villages hatchlings then you steal my pet. What do you want from me?!"
"I would never do something so barbaric! How could you even think that?" He says while petting the rodent in his arms.
"Maybe it was sister's village. She has been quiet for awhile," he says circling me, looking me up and down. "You have been taking care of yourself, big brother."
"Why would Praelia do something like that?" I growl at him, ignoring his last statement.
He shrugs while stopping in front of me. The rodent in his arms stares at me and chitters angrily. I hiss which makes it try to shrink into Aleam's arms.
"It would be appreciated if you did not scare Moon. She is very upset right now. She lost a friend. I'm sure you know him," he looks at me with a smirk. "What was his name again?Lucas?"
"Why did you take him? How did you take him?"
"I didn't even know you had a pet. It was your niece and nephew that took Lucas."
"Tell them to stop stealing, or I will tie them up like a pet," I growl.
"You will do no such thing!" He hisses. "Maybe if they felt loved by their uncle they wouldn't have to beg for his attention. Do you even talk to them when they visit your village anymore?"
"I am too busy to have playtime with hatchlings."
He chuckles. "I would hate to be Felix."
"Speaking of Felix, why is he not allowed here?"
"He is. He's probably to busy chasing his father's tail for attention though."
"I give Felix my full attention whenever I can!"
"When is that? Once in a blue moon?"
"I am not here to be told how to raise my son. If you do not get your stuff together I am taking my rightful place as king. I gave this to you out of pity, and you are really making me regret it," I hiss.
Aleam lets out a low, humorless, chuckle. "If I ever hear you say anything like that again, I'll kill you just like I killed father."
"Father was weak! Do not underestimate me, Aleam."
"You're just like him. Probably just as weak," he says, narrowing his eyes.
"Are you challenging me?"
"I am, big brother."
"You are an idiot. I have to decline. I do not feel like putting a naga with the mind of a hatchling in their place."
"You know who was an idiot? Mother. Glad she's dead," he snaps.
"Yeah and I am glad I killed the bug who killed her," I snap back.
"Don't talk about her like that! She is the queen!"
I get in my brother's face and whisper, "Was the queen. Now she is dead. I killed her, and I enjoyed it." I growl the last part while brushing dirt off his shoulder.
Something in him snaps. He drops his shifter and lunges at me. I easily dodge and watch as he quickly turns around.
"Take it back!" He cries out, trying to swipe me with his claws.
"Messy," I growl. "You let your anger control you."
"I hate you!" He wraps a hand around my neck. "You will die! Just like father!"
I smirk at the wild look in his eyes.
"Hey, mouse," I say in a soft voice.
"F-Father?"
Aleam looks behind him at Genus.
"What is going on?" She whispers.
"Nothing. Go find your brother, apple," Aleam says, the wild look in his eyes replaced with softness.
"Are you hurting Uncle Niko? Can you guys not just make up?"
"It's not that simple, apple," he says letting go of my neck. "Come here."
Genus slithers over to us with her arms wide open. Aleam picks her up and slithers away from me. He turns his head.
"Leave," he says in a calm voice.
I watch as he takes Genus away. She waves her little hand at me. I smile and wave back.
"Bye, mouse."
