Beep... beep... beep...
I groan into my soft pillow, deprived of sleep. Haven't been sleeping properly recently, and I feel like shit because of it. But, that aside, today was... er... November 4th on a Monday. Great. School.
I roll over and sigh, then shut off my alarm and get out of bed. I quickly pad over to the bathroom and start the water on the shower. While the water is heating up, I shut and lock the door and look at my face in the mirror. I don't look too bad and the circles under my eyes aren't too prominent, but I still look kind of shitty. When the mirror fogs up, I strip down to nothing and get in, do my business, get out, and wrap a towel around my waist, proceeding to hurry back to my room.
Quickly drying off and finding an outfit consisting of a large, red hoodie and grey sweatpants, I get dressed, slide a beanie onto my disheveled hair, and walk downstairs to see my younger sister, Evie, at the table already. "Hey, Eve" I greet her with a smile. She smiles back and hums, mid-bite of her breakfast. "Sleep well?"
It takes a moment for her to respond since she has to swallow her bite, and when she does so, she says, "Yeah. You look like shit, so I'm guessing you didn't?"
"That's not nice."
"Who said I was ever nice?"
I grin at Evie and she continues. "Hey, um, Zack? I've been having some... troubles lately." I raise an eyebrow at her, and she looks away.
"Well, how about you let me get ready and we can talk about it on the way to school?" I propose, smiling. She looks over and thinks about it, then nods. I return the gesture and complete my routine: eat, gather stuff I need for school, feed my golden retriever whose name is Goldenrod, et cetera et cetera. When I finish my routine, I go to Evie and tilt my head. "You ready?" When she nods, I smile. "Then let's go and you can vent to me."
With that, I leave the house, calling a Bye ma'! Bye pa'! over my shoulder. I proceed to my car and hop into the driver's seat, tossing my bag in the back and starting up the car as Evie gets in the passenger's seat. "Alright. Go on."
She begins to speak. "There's this boy at school that keeps flirting with me and I don't like him the way he likes me. What- what do I do? I don't want to hurt his feelings."
Well, I certainly did not expect boy issues. "Uhh... okay. Who is this boy?"
She bit the inside of her cheek. "Quintin Orlando."
"But he's a senior. You're a sophomore..."
"Exactly!"
I frown and glance between her and the road. "I... don't know how to... er... help, but I can go speak to him. Not that... I'm exactly intimidating to him." I mean, I have little muscle, but this Quintin guy- Jesus. He is jacked beyond hell.
"Really? Thank you, Zack! I mean it! I'll- I'll pay you back." I look over after she spoke, smiled, and replied, "No need, Eve. It's fine."
