By the light of the moon
Songs from the sea
But is it all too soon
My lovely enemy?
Both Broken
And too blind
Afraid of words unspoken
Cruelty and relief combined
Seduced by beauty
Beguiled by fire
But always putting duty
Over one's own curiosity an...
"I just love music," Edmond said "it's so....powerful."
"Indeed, it's what units all living things. It can be dark or cheery. And it's so moving, just filled with passionand life. Like the ocean."
" What do you mean?"
"Well here let me show you. Watch this."
Kai dipped the tip of her tail into the water. The touch created a ripple effect. She selected a ring and pulled it out of the sea. The disk of water had a shimmery golden glow. Kai began to unfold the disk into a bubble. Edmond stared at her in amazement.

" That's a lovely magic trick dear but how does that answer my question?" He asked.
" You see that foam floating over there?"
" Yes?"
"Row the boat to it." Kai comanded.
Edmond obeyed and rowed them over to the spot. Kai lifted the bubble toward Edmond's face.
" May I?" She asked.
Edmond smirked " You may."
Kai gently lifted his chin to be level with her gaze. She held the bubble in between them. Edmond smirked at her and leaned in.
"What are you doing?" She barked.
The prince was startled and opened his eyes, frowning.
Kai laughed in amusement as she shoved the bubble over his head.
" How dare you!" Edmond seethed.
" You should have seen your face!" Kai giggled. " Can't take a little rejection your highness? "
Edmond glared at her.
" Here look into the water." Kai said leaning near the water.
"Ok." Edmond snickered, shoving Kai over board. Her body toppled over the boat recklessly, crashing into the sea.
Kai came up immediately, but she had an idea. She floated up to the surface, her bare back toward the surface. The prince's laughter was silenced.
"Kai?..."
She grinned, but her eyes remained closed, still playing dead.
"Kai!"
She felt his strong arms snake around her waist and lift her. Kai allowed her arms and head to droop. But she became uncomfortable when Edmond's hand rested on her hip and his other held her neck. His thumb traced her cheek. Edmond looked up to her face and saw that her purple violate eyes were boring into his with disaproval.
"You." She glared.
Edmond sighed in relief but quickly recovered with a laugh. "Yes, me."
"You can let go of me now."
"Why?"
"Becuase I said so."
"Do you want me to?"
"Yes." She snapped.
"Really Kai?" His vioce low. "Really?"
Kai didn't like his rough sarcasim. She then bent the waves and commanded them to splash him. The prince looked at her startled, now soaking wet. A wicked grin spread across his face. They began hurling waves of water at eachother. Edmond was about to drown in Kai's monstrous wave until Edmond yelled "I lift my white flag in this battle, mermaiden. I surrender! "
The wave immeadatly clasped at Kai's command. "I win." She proclaimed proudly.
"Only because water obeys your voice."
"Is that a challenge?"
" What did you want to show me?" Edmond asked, changing the subject.
" Look!" Kai smiled, pointing under water.
Edmond stuck his head under the sea and was in awe at what he saw. It was a beautiful coral reaf. Marine animals and plants were in all sorts of shapes and sizes. And the colors were so vivid and bright. He watched Kai swim with a school of fish matching their rythem of speed. She added to the harmony of the sea. Everything was in sync as if the ocean were a song. He couldn't help but laugh as Kai played with the dolphins and their peice of sea weed. The mermaid looked happy and at peace here. Even her grace as she soared with the manta rays made him feel bubbly inside and he relaxed as the smell of sea salt filled his lungs. As Edmond lifted his head out of the water, the bubble popped. Kai then returned to the boat.
" I understand now! All the living things are connected. You affect them, they affect you. It's hard to explian. It's harmony." Edmond excliamed.
" I'm happy you enjoyed it." Kai answered, a smile dancing on her lips.
There was an awkward pause.
"Speaking of music... I...um-do you wanna sing?" Edmond nervously, rubbed the back of his neck. "A duet-with me?"
Kai thought about it for a moment. The heartbreaker is tripping up over her. How amusing.
"Well, thats an odd request. Sing what?" She asked as she wrang out her long wet hair. Edmond noticed that the drops of water seemed to roll off of her hair, allowing it to dry within seconds.
"There's this song that my mother used to sing to my father and I before she died...She said it was from the sea. I think you might know it...Can you help me remember?"
Kai looked at the prince. In that moment he no longer looked like a rude, ignorant man. Edmond looked like a lost, abused guppy. Or as humans say puppy.Without a mother...She looked into his eyes and discovered that they were hazel, not the brown she thought they were.
"I'll try..." Kai said, uneasily.
The prince cleared his throat. After a while he sang:
And so I'm sailing through the sea
To an island where we'll meet
(Kai's eyes widened, the prince had a very nice voice...)
