The clock showed 4:30pm. I sat up and buried my face in my wet and slippery hands. The same horrible nightmare again. You'd be thinking I am used to it now, but I still wake up with a jerk, I still find myself drenched with sweat, teeth chattering, heart pounding. I turned the heater off.It was still raining. I kicked the blanket off and washed my face. It was too early to go to work yet, but I still put my sweater on. I just wanted to go out; it was suffocating in my room even though the windows were wide open and the cold light breeze of the winter rain almost froze the droplets of sweat on my forehead. Plus the awful silence of this once loud and cheerful house made a ringing sound in my ears. I awkwardly hummed to myself just to break the unbearable silence.
I opened my scarlet umbrella. Seoul was getting busy already; I could hear the faint horns of cars in the main street among the melody of the rain drops falling on my umbrella. The shops were still closed though. I checked my watch and waited for the hands to move until I realized that it wasn't working. It had stopped exactly at 12:00. I sighed and closed my eyes. The pit - pat of the rain on my umbrella was so soothing to hear...
Everything seemed to be in a shade of grey today. Was it because of the dead wintriness or did nothing just seem to be 'colourful' to me anymore? It felt like my scarlet umbrella was the only colour in the middle of this greyness. Without a destination or a plan, I started walking along the lonely grey concrete, towards the grey buildings of grey Seoul in the grey rain.
My legs ached even though I had probably walked for only 20 minutes and it made me stop. It's strange how I get exhausted so fast these days. I checked my watch again and pressed my lips. I wish I could forget the tormenting past just like this. I wanted to start everything all over again, with an absolutely empty new brain.
Just as I was about to continue walking, someone grasped my arms and I almost jumped out of my skin.
