"What do you mean, "a deep sleep due to disease"?" I nearly shouted at the doctor standing in front of me.
"It's the only way we can try to save you, Jason." He said with a sickeningly calm voice, but his look of pure sadness told otherwise. "You have until one p.m tomorrow. I'm sorry." He said, slowly walking towards the door. "I wish I could have done more." He added quietly as he swiftly opened the door and stepped out into the corridor.
I felt as if a ton of bricks had just fallen flat onto my chest. I wanted to scream and cry but I could only manage to stare blankly at the pale beige walls that surround me. After years of struggling and fighting. Just to end it all like this? I was interrupted from my thoughts as my one and only friend came bounding into the room, looking all excited.
"Hey dude! Guess what?!" He said as he walked up to my bed. Suddenly his expression changed from an excited and joyful to serious and worried. "What's wrong, Jason?" He asked, concern eminent in his voice. "I...they're putting me into a deep sleep, Oliver." I barely managed to choke out before sobs wracked my body.
"Jason I'm so sorry." Him and I both knew what the term "deep sleep" meant. Basically, it means that they're going to knock me out and then give me a series of injections that will, in a matter of minutes, kill me. They told me on the very first day that they will try to avoid it at all costs, but look were that got me.
I got up out of my bed, even though it was strictly for bathing or using of the facilities. I got up so I could hug him, Oliver already holding his arms out. I don't know how long we stood there, me sobbing into his shoulder and him rocking us back and forth whispering soothing words into my hair. It felt like hours before we both pulled back from the hug.
"I've got till one p.m tomorrow." I said with a shaky breath. I ran a hand through my light brown hair and looked up at the clock on the wall. Nine in the morning. What a pleasant way to wake up.
SO! First story on here. Not sure how I feel about this one yet.
Eh, guess I'll see what happens.
