My jaw went slack as the boys whooped and cheered at Liam's announcement.

"Wait, no, you can't!" I choked out.

"You left us no choice, love," Zayn teased. "The last thing we're gonna do is let you run off again."

"And we certainly wouldn't want that to happen," Louis said wih a smirk as he pulled off the curb and starting driving.

Oh no, I thought. This can only lead to trouble.

"But don't worry," Harry reassured me, "We'll be able to keep an eye on you for a while."

"What's that's supposed to mean?" I blurted

"Oh, we won't be with you 24/7," Niall began. I detected a hint of sorrow in his voice. Weird. "But we will be checking on you from time to time."

My head was spinning. What in the world were these guys talking about? If I had been in my right mind, I would've jumped out of the car right then and there. But the blood loss from my hand was making me light-headed, and I had already run several miles that night. Not to mention the fact that I had almost become road kill and was now with five men who were becoming very suspicious to me.

"Lads, she's probably overwhelemed as it is," said Liam, as if he had read my mind. "Megan has enough on her mind. Not to mention she's hurt! Let's not add to her stress."

I relaxed and gave Liam a thankful smile via the rearview mirror. To my surprise, he half smiled back and turned away.

That's strange, I noted to myself, scrunching my eyebrows together.

"We weren't stressing her out!" Harry denied.

"Uh, yeah, you were," I added, probably coming off a bit snobbish. But hey, who could blame me? I was confused, injured, and too tired to think straight.

"Oh, well, we're sorry," Niall apologized

"YES, WE'RE VERY MUCH APOLOGETIC!" Louis cried, drawing giggles from the others. His screech gave me a massive headache, of which I let be known to everyone. Of course this just caused another round of apologies and laughing.

A few minutes later, we arrived at one of the most beautiful hotels in town, the Omni. I had been here once as a child, before Mom died. It was our girls night out, and even though we could never afford much, Mom had splurged and booked us a room here. The memory brought tears to my eyes, but I refused to let these five strangers see me cry- five handsome strangers at that. Now that I could see their faces clearly, I realized how attractive each of them was. I blushed a bit thinking about how I had acted and my dreadful appearance.

I decided to muster up a real smile and direct it at whoever was beside me. It turned out to be Harry and I received a cheesy grin in return.

Well, you can't say they aren't friendly, I thought to myself.

"We're here!" Louis announced (very loudly, to my annoyance).

"You live in a hotel?" I asked stupidly.

All five boys laughed at my ignorance. "No, this isn't our home," Zayn said with a nervous grin on his face. "We're just staying here for...um-"

"Vacation!" Liam cut in. "We're on vacation!"

Everyone turned and gave Liam a strange look. Then, Harry's eyes widened and he added, "Yes! We're visiting, uh, friends!"

My better judgement slipped by as I nodded at them sleepily. Any other day I would've known they were lying straight to my face. "Oh, that's cool," I mumbled.

After Louis parked, he jumped out of the front and carried me away from the comfortable backseat.

"Hey," I weakly protested as I was carried through the hotel's back door. I had gotten extremely lightheaded over the past few minutes and wasn't sure I could keep my eyes open much longer.

"Stay with me, babe," Louis whispered into my ear.

Everything was a blur until I felt my body being laid across a soft mattress. I rested my eyes at last, unaware of anything but sleep.

"We need to fix her hand somehow," one of the boys whispered. "Her face is really pale."

"I'll get Paul," another answered. "He'll know what to do."

A few shuffling noises later, I heard a grunt from above me. A big, callused hand took mine in his ever so gently. Then, a horrible stinging sensation flowed through my body, starting at my palm and traveling down my wrist.

"OW!" I yelled in pain.

"It's okay," a gruff but reassuring voice said. "It's just a little hydrogen peroxide. It's cleaning out the wound."

I might have said something smart-alecky, but just then I felt something big stab into my hand.

The agony on my face must've been clear, because I heard the gruff voice say, "I'm so sorry, but we have to get the bullet out or your hand may fall off."

Instantly filled with curiosity, I made the stupid desicion of cracking open my eyes to take a look at what was happening.

What I saw was awful. A huge man whom I had never seen before was groping around in my palm with huge tweezers. My entire hand was caked with black, dried blood while a mixture of pus and fresh blood ran down over it.

Using the last of all my energy, I let out a whimper and let the darkness of unconsciousness consume me.
