The beautiful beast drained out from Valor. "What..." she murmured, a tight feeling hitting her chest... "Jered..."
"That creature we fought on the boat the other day..." he reminded her.
"That was mom?!" she shrieked.
"I think so."
"I killed her! Oh my god..."
"You're damn right on that one," Phoenix agreed. Tobi sent him a dirty look and slid out her sword.
"WHY?! WHY ME?!" she cried. Everyone was silent after that. "Tobi, Mother, Jered, please forgive me!" Tobi looked at her tear-stained complexion.
"We will always forgive you, Valor. And it wasn't your fault. You guys didn't know..."
"That is true," Phoenix chimed in. "I did use her to track you guys though-"
"WHAT?!" Valor yelled. She snatched his neckband and lifted him up, choking him brutally. He kicked her stomach and she dropped him, still holding on to him.
"Valor," Artemis said, reaching out his hand, "Just, relax for a moment."
"Relax?!" she muttered under breath. "Relax?! My mother-" She pointed at herself, Jered and Tobi. "Our mother...is DEAD. And yet you tell me to relax..."
"Valor, I know how you feel," he pressed on. "I'm not any different to you. Yes, I did wail a bit when I lost my mother, but that's it. You have to move on. And you have no time to mourn over her at a time like this. Your mother did not raise you this way to beat up even your worst enemies.
Valor squeezed Phoenix's collar tighter and looked down to see his smirk. She frowned and half-heartedly released him, and he adjusted his suit.
"We'll get you next time..." she told him with a smoldering look on her face.
"Very well, puella," he grinned. "I will see you soon. Preferably here. And be ready because you most likely won't be returning." He then winked, stomped his foot, and vanished.
"I despise him even more now," Valor snarled. She sighed and massaged her forehead, trying to comprehend what he meant. Won't be returning? What was that supposed to mean?
"So..." Vale began, "You're a Ravian?"
Valor nodded glumly.
"That's so cool!" he gushed. Valor looked up and smiled weakly, her eyes shining along with the sun. Vale hushed and took a moment to admire her appearance.
"Thank you, Vale, but..." She gazed up at the others. "I don't know how to control my powers. And still, mom died!"
"What are you talking about?" Tobi asked.
"You saw me. I reacted so... dreadfully. Well, it was understandable and personally... relatable. But how am I going to avoid doing that... how to avoid letting my emotions get the best of me?"
"I think we could train you."
"But, what do you know about Ravians? What even IS a Ravian?"
"A Ravian is a powerful species of magical beings that died out a thousand years ago due to the war and extinction," Hassa informed. "They have large wings and are telepaths and empaths."
"For once you're actually useful," Vale cracked a smile.
"Shut up, human," Hassa grumbled. "I saved your helpless butt from a gravenia."
"Wait what?" Valor asked, frowning.
"Yeah, we got attacked by one when you were gone," Artemis admitted. "Actually, not one, but hundreds."
