My hands are sweaty, my heart is racing, my head is spinning. Yep, I'm never going to get used to being "The New Kid". Despite what all the Teen Girl magazine's say, starting at a new school is something I'll never master.
I stare at the wrought iron gates of Glen-Hill High in front of me. God I hate iron gate entrances - they always give me the chills. Anyway, enough starring, sooner or later I'll have to move these sad excuses for legs and actually enter the school grounds.
My twelfth school; by now you would think I could walk in confidently without feeling shaky. I think to myself, straightening my backpack. I take one step inside the grounds, and instantly I feel as though I'm going to pass out. "Stay strong, Anna, keep it together." I mutter to myself quietly, so no one else can hear.
Putting on a brave face, I try to walk confidently into the busy courtyard ahead of me. I either look really cocky, all like: "I'm the hottest student to grace your playground"; or I look really cowardly. Either way I won't make a good first impression.
If there's one thing I've learnt from starting new schools so many times it's that making a good first impression is key. If you do well enough, you might even become one of the popular kids! Unfortunately for me, I never had that sort of luck. Every first day at every other school I've attended has always been the same - I end up becoming apart of some loser crowd who no one cares about. But this time it'll be different. I just know it.
I can see the courtyard looming ahead now. It looks realy busy. Maybe choosing to go this way wasn't such a good idea. I'll just go to the library instead; there'll be no one there.
As I start turning around, something catches my eye: a group of about 6 Girls and 3 Guys walking unimaginably, flawlessly, perfectly confident towards the courtyard. Instantly, something in my mind clicks - they must be one of the groups of popular kids. One of the girls, tall with long, shiny chestnut hair tossed over her left shoulder carries a glitzy hot pink handbag with a small dog inside on her right arm. In her left hand she holds a phone, vigorously texting away. She must be the leader, the alpha female, the Queen. On either side of her stand two more girls, mimicing her every move. One has jet black hair tied up in a high ponytail with bangs hanging on either side of her face, whilst the other has a short blonde bob with her bangs pinned back - they must be her loyal followers (girls who will do anything and everythng to make her happy in the hopes that one day they will be as good as her).
Behind the "leader" stands a tall guy; dark brown hair, deep brown eyes with a chiseled face. He's holding the chestnut haired girls hand, or is she holding his hand? Behind them stand 2 more guys and 3 more girls. Surprisingly, these ones don't seem to mimic the leaders every move like the black haired girl and the girl with the blonde bob. I'm assuming that they're just her friends.
What I wouldn't give to be apart of that group! My staring catches me off guard, and I stop myself before anyone notices. Stuff going to the library, it looks like the courtyard is where all the action is!
