They were dead.
After a decade of torture, I was free. That was what I was supposed to feel but I felt the same, numb. I wasn't dumb enough to believe I was free, they were always going to stick with me have it be in my dreams or the scars the littered across my body. I didn't know where I was going to go as I was only 16. It wouldn't matter though I was damaged beyond repair. A sick part of me was sad that they were gone. They were the only company I had. Ever after that day two years ago I was numb, I hadn't spoken or smiled. It had come to the point where the only thing I could feel was the pain.
"Lily", called out the police officer named Anne. I nodded at her in a way to tell her to proceed. " you will be placed at the local orphanage until your new guardian arrives." she said. They got a new guardian so fast. She must have seen the confused expression on my face as she said, "You will meet them soon". I shrugged because it didn't matter if they would get tired of me soon enough.
The orphanage was filled with children of all ages. I usually sat and watched the kids play. A smile would almost tug at my lips as I watched the innocent kids play with each other. I was envious of them being able to experience that childish innocence that was stolen from me. Then I thought about my new guardian. Maybe they will be nice?. No, I can't be hopeful. Look what happened last time. I slowly went to my room and laid down. I had given up on sleep as all it brought me was pain. So I just stared at the ceiling while tears streamed down my face.
BLAKE POV:
"Shit", I said as the phone interrupted me for the third time during the meeting. " You are dismissed, we will continue another time", I informed them in a cold voice. I picked up the phone,"Hello".
"Yes, is this Mr. Knight speaking".
Were they dumb? Who else would it be "Yes", I snapped. " this is Rick from CPS and we are here to inform you, your sister's guardians have tragically passed in a car accident and she now doesn't have a guardian".
Fuck. "Is she okay", I said. What if she was hurt? I would kill the person who caused her pain. "Yes she is okay, she wasn't present during the crash", he said. Thank God, I let out the breath I was holding.
" Since you and your brothers are the only people related to her by blood and you are 26. We are asking you to be her legal guardian", Rick said. "Yes, send me the details", I said and cut the phone. They want me to be her guardian? I hadn't seen Lilly since she was six. All of us were extremely protective of her and she loved it. She had always followed us around like an adorable puppy, but things happened and her leaving was the only way to protect her. I sighed as I remembered the day she had to leave. She was sobbing for us to not let them take her away. It broke all of our hearts as we said our goodbyes to see her wide grey eyes full of hurt. It was what we had to do. I will not let my sister stay in an orphanage so I said yes. I texted my brothers to break the news to them.
"Why did you call us here?", Cade said.
" This better be important, I missed the party for this fucking shit", said Dean annoyed.
"Blake please tell me you didn't call us to lecture us about business", Hunter asked.
Xavier, Chris, Eros, Elijah, and Gray stayed silent trying to figure out what was happening.
I sighed and said, "Lilly is living with us again, her parents died in the car crash and I'm legally her guardian".
Everyone tensed but while Cade, Chris and Elijah seemed over the moon, Eros, Dean and Hunter seemed concerned. Lastly, Gray and Xavier seemed mad. It was silent for a few minutes.
"No", said Xavier with his jaw clenched.
What the fuck was he on about. "What do you mean no", I said trying to control my anger. He glared at me and said, "It's not safe for her and you know it". "And you know damn well that we can protect her", said Cade calmly. I knew he was anything but calm at the moment.
Xavier didn't say anything back but he still seemed pissed.
" I agree with Xav, I don't want a spoiled little bitch to be a part of our family", said gray. I was just about to say something when Xavier said coldly, "shut your trap kid. I swear if you talk about her like that again I won't hesitate to hurt you. My reason for her not to be here is because her safety is a concern, not because I'm a petty teenager that is scared that his little sister will take up all the attention". He then left but not without slamming the door shut. Everyone was shocked Xavier was not one to talk much. The most I heard from him was usually about five words.
I looked at them and said, "I could care less if you guys have any objections with this because what I say goes. Gray, you will talk to your sister with respect and she will always be a part of the family. one more word about her and you're grounded and that goes for all of you". I then exited the office and began to prepare for Lilly.
