Tim Pivarnik is a graduate in Secondary Education, and has also received a Master's degree in Secondary Education from Indiana University, Gary. He is appointed as the Principal of Gary Middle College. In the year 2004, he arranged a high school academy workshop and presentation in Santa Fe, NM.
He made a committee to develop an alternative school at Griffith Middle/High School for the school years 2007-08. He also assisted professionals in the development of the Griffith Alternative School student handbook as well as writing the grant proposal for the other school. Recently, he attended Teach Like a Champion Workshops.
Tim Pivarnik says that improvements in the areas of teaching, assessments, and curriculum are required, so as to assist students acquire 21st century learning skills, for instance, critical thinking and problem solving. He thinks that the biggest challenge that the education sector is facing these days is how to successfully join problem solving as well as critical thinking skills, and the soft skills required to build an efficient and feasible 21st century curriculum.
He is of the opinion that teaching strategies must be refined, so that they can lead to effective enforcement as well as delivery of curriculum. It is essential to amend teaching strategies in order to improve educational models, but this can take place only at the cost of precise and regular professional development for existing teachers along with upgrading teacher training programs.
Tim Pivarnik, the former Principal of Calumet High School says that it is very essential to enhance the quality of assessments. These must be made in such a way that they can evaluate critical thinking and problem solving skills, so as to analyze the actual effectiveness of a 21st century curriculum as well as its influence on the teacher effectiveness and students' achievements.
