Barb rested her head on her pillow, she turned to her girlfriend Carol who was fast asleep. The rock troll gently held her hand, her expression softened. She could only have one of them. It was painful having feelings for 2 people. Her grip tightened and listened to Carol's soft snoring. Barb growled in frustration. She wasn't going to get any sleep tonight. Not only was she tired of the snoring but Poppy was on her mind. Everything about her made her feel nervous and nauseous.
Barb had left her in a guest room but she regretted it. She wanted to be sleeping by her, perhaps even gaze at her while she slept. The troll sat up and stared at the wall in front of her. What was she doing? She glanced at Carol, perhaps even looking at her could simply change her mind. Surprisingly, it didn't. She found herself in front of the door.
As soon as her hand reached the handle she looked up at the ceiling and breathed out. Think about this.
Was it worth losing a relationship?
She loved them both. She couldn't choose.
She wanted to hear Poppy's voice again, but she didn't want to disturb her.
God, this was frustrating. She stopped thinking and turned the knob, walking toward the guest room through the hallway. Stop, stop, stop walking.
Her thoughts were all scrambled she had no idea if this was the right move. She was questioning her conscience and her love for Carol.
No, no, no, think about poppy.
She was standing face to face at the door that lead to her beloved best friend. The whole point of this vacation was to give Poppy a break, not barging into her room the middle of night. She doesn't know how pop trolls like poppy cope.
Do they sing or cry it all out? Barbs methods were completely different. She would love to show Poppy sometime, maybe even show her how much she means to her. Her hand rested on the knob. This was it.
She inhaled before opening the door. Oh god. She watched Poppy wake up, her tired eyes fixated on Barb."Barb?.." She asked tiredly. "What are you doing here?" The pop troll asked as she sat up. What could Barb possible want right now? Was she going to kick her out? "I wanted to see you," Barb said straightforwardly, her face went red after realizing what she had said.
"Can i sleep with you?" Barb muttered ever so slightly. She had missed Poppy's bright bubbly personality even if they were only separated for a few hours. There she was, lying next to the person she looked up to, breathing heavily.
God, it felt like she going to have a panic attack, she was so close. It surprised her when poppy had said yes. Although, Barb was satisfied that she wasn't sent back to her room.
But this felt wrong. She needed to end things with Carol if she was going to continue being like this. Their relationship was really just a make out sessions every few hours. The tension between them did fade throughout the time, but she still loved her. This was difficult.Very difficult.
The next morning Barb had woken up earlier than she would have. She wasn't normally a morning person. Usually she'd wake up during the afternoon but I guess her body was too paranoid to wake up after Poppy. And of course, she had left before Poppy could notice that she was gone.
She sat on her throne with a huge cup of coffee, this time she didn't know what she wanted. She wasn't sure of what her intentions would be. Break up with Carol and possibly become girlfriends with Poppy? Or just stay with Carol and become a good friend for the pop troll. This decision making made her head ache.
She didn't want to cheat, that would totally be uncool of her. But last night she was totally out of it and ran on an impulse. Frowning, she came to a realization that she couldn't live without poppy. Honestly, she'd do anything just to see her cute smile.
Barb shifted her head to Carol, she was sitting miserably on the worn out couch.
Carol watched lifelessly as Barb walked and sat next to her. "Hey, Carol. I gotta tell you something," Barb said with a frown.God, this was awkward.
"I was just wondering if.. we could take a break," She paused and looked in Carol's eyes, "a permanent one...""It's not you it's me, I just thought since both of us weren't putting any effort in this relationship, we should just dial it down and become.. possibly friends, again?" She continued as she watched Carol sit up from her slouching position. "It's her, isn't it," Carol said bluntly. "Poppy, right?" The muddy rock troll was almost stunned at her response, she couldn't deny it though. This was because of Poppy, after all.
"It was pretty obvious from the start that this wasn't going anywhere," She looked down and sighed. "All we did was make out or something, I can't blame you for wanting to leave. Poppy really does know how to make you smile." Barb nodded. "Yeah.. She really managed to make me fall for her,"
It was silent for a few minutes, both of them were just taking it in, that this was over. Possibly forever.
Barb frowned, she pulled Carol in a tight hug. "I'll miss you, but this is for the best, right?" Barb asked. "Yeah, get over me, ok?" Carol responded bluntly, again, as she patted her back. Barb let out a laugh as she slowly pulled away. Carol cracked a smile to ease the tension, then walked away. Barb sighed in relief, that didn't go as bad, right?
Then a thought came into her mind. She needed to go see Poppy.
