The Crystal Gems had shown Onyx great hospitality since she crash landed on their planet by complete accident. Pearl and Steven went out of their way to teach the young gem about Earth culture, since it was vastly different from Gems. Not like it mattered to Onyx, since she knew about as much as Steven did when it came to Gems and their culture. She only knew one thing about Gemkind, every gem was created to serve under the Great Diamond Authority; but things didn't work that way here on Earth.

"Everyone decides for themselves here on Earth." Steven explained, "Humans aren't born or created with a specified purpose. They get to choose who they want to be."

"Who they want to be..?" Onyx tilted her head, "Why would they do that?"

"Well..-" Steven began.

"Steven!!" an excited voice shouted from the doorway, making Onyx nearly poof from the shock.

Steven turned towards his front entrance with glee as he greeted another human standing there, "Connie!!"

"I got your text message," she explained, looking over at Onyx, "so this is the new gem you guys found?"

Onyx quickly hid behind Pearl, shyer than ever in the presence of another human.

"Yes. Connie, this is Onyx..." Pearl explained, patting Onyx on the head gently, "It's alright, Onyx. Connie is Steven's best friend."

Onyx looked up at Pearl quietly for a moment before walking up to the new human. "U-Umm..." Onyx bowed respectfully, "It's a pleasure to meet you..."

"Nice to meet you too!" Connie replied, laughing awkwardly, "but, you don't have to bow. I'm not royalty or anything."

"O-Oh... Apologies." Onyx corrected her stance.

"Onyx, you don't have to talk like that either. Just be casual!" Steven told her. Once again, the new gem was confused.

"What is 'casual'..?" Onyx asked.

"Y'know... When you're not being very formal and whatnot?"

"Why, that's simply barbaric!" Onyx exclaimed.

Pearl sighed and kneeled, whispering to Steven, "Give her some time to adjust... She's pretty new all around."

Steven gave Onyx a look that could best be described as "you poor thing".

"Have you guys shown her around Beach City at all..?" Connie asked, breaking the silence.

"Not yet. We don't want to overwhelm her." Pearl inquired, "Especially when..-"

A sudden shriek interrupted Pearl as Onyx scurried to the far side of the room to avoid Lion, who was just trying to get a sniff of their new friend.

"S-Steven, how do you get this creature to go away?!" she panicked.

"Oh! That's just Lion!" Steven informed, "He's my buddy, and I think he likes you."

The fluffy pink organic creature let out a fierce roar, prompting Onyx to yelp and hide behind the kitchen counter... Until she realized it was only a yawn and Lion stole a spot on the couch to take a nap. She sighed in slight relief that it was no longer interested.

"That's our Lion," Pearl laughed nervously.

"So Onyx, are you really the only one of your kind..?" Connie asked the new gem curiously.

Onyx gave a quiet nod and stared at the ground, avoiding eye contact, "As far as I am aware... I am the only Onyx to have emerged in hundreds of thousands of millions of years."
