Republished chapter oneThis was wrong, everything was wrong, today was the day his life was supposed to change, but for the better not like this. Taylor pushed himself farther into the corner as the flames inched closer,
"REBECA!! DAD!!" he screamed inhaling more smoke than he already had, coughing he reached into his pocket and yanked out his phone. His stinging eyes filled with tears as he struggled to control his trembling hands.
"Come on" he sobbed, gasping for air, his lungs begged for it, but all he could give them was smoke. Wiping the back of his hands across his eyes he looked down at his phone again, this time succeeding in unlocking it. Letting out a relieved laugh Taylor clicked on the phone icon and quickly dialed 911.
911 Dispatch Center
Maddie settled happily at her desk, this morning had gone great! She had woken up early, taken a nice warm shower, made breakfast with her husband, then set off to work grabbing a coffee along the way. She had arrived a little earlier since her shift didn't start until 10 and it was 9:50, but she slipped her headset on any way and answered her first call.
"911, whats your emergency?" she asked, keeping her voice as monotone as possible, on the other side of the line there was a sort of crackling and popping sound.
"I-I'm stuck" a breathless voice answered, quickly beginning to type Maddie continued,
"Can you tell me where you are"
"My house" Maddie paused, resisting the urge to laugh,
"Can you give me an address?"
"5235... Canoga... Ave, Woodland.... Hills" The person gasped, Maddies humor vanished at the sounds in the background, there was a crash and the crackling sound grew louder.
"What's your name? " Maddie asked
" T-taylor "
" Alright Taylor and how old are you "
" Twelve " Maddie paused from her typing, this boy was 12? His voice sounded so much deeper than a twelve year olds. Maddie quickly shook her head to clear it,
" Ok, and can you tell me how you got stuck "
" M-my house i-is on f-f-fire! " The boy practically sobbed, Maddie quickly typed it down, this situation was much more serious than she previously thought.
" Don't worry Taylor, help is on the way, now can you tell me if you are hurt, were you burned or-"
" No " the boy quickly answered
" I just can't move! "
" Alright, calm down, are you stuck under or behind something? " Maddie asked, waving an employee over, Dave, and gesturing to her screen showing him to contact the fire department. Nodding he quickly ran off,
" N-no, I'm in the corner of the l-living room " Taylor suddenly erupted into a fit of heavy coughing.
" Ok Taylor, do you know how much smoke you've inhaled " Maddie listened to the rasp breaths on the other line,
