A quaint shop stood near the popular brothel; The Elven Inn. The stone building was covered with dark pink and purple ribbons adjoining with the thorny, coarse vines. The vines barely covered the beaten up sign's title; Magical Mysteries. Two windows, bizarrely shaped in triangles were hidden in by the variety of several yellow roses. Green smoke emerged from the chimney, which complimented the roof's shingles of ebony, brown, and indigo.

Inside of Magical Mysteries inhabited the owner Kurtis and his daughter Y/N. Kurtis would entertain his customers with magic tricks like Origami, The Assistant's Revenge, Book Test, and Metamorphosis. Y/N, on the other hand, preferred various methods of divination: anthomancy, libanomancy, taromancy, and gastromancy. The magic father-daughter set was flourishing in their work.

I stared at the stars from our triangular windows. Occasionally, my gaze falling upon the people walking by my dad's shop. Two men who came to the brothel next door regularly: Stunk and Zel were present. I was not friends with the perverted duo, but often the three of us were brought together by the fates.

'Maybe I should say hi?' A troubled expression founded its way upon my face. 'No, don't be stupid! Dad would kill you if he saw you with them!' I closed my eyes imagining a tiny devil me, and an angel me resting on my shoulders fighting about whether I should say hi, or stay inside and just observe. Opening my eyes I flicked the tiny versions of me off my broad shoulders. My devil and angel screaming in their high pitched voices as they fell to my carpeted floor. Looking out my window again seeing that Stunk and Zel were gone. Seems angel me won this time.

I grabbed my journal turning to the second page. Tally marks lined up in rows under the names devil and angel, with angel winning with a head score of four tally marks. I dipped my quill lightly into the ink bottle on my window sill adding a tally to the angel.

I wiped down my quill ridding it of ink. No messes today, you inky bitch!

A shattering sound came from the seance room. Did someone break-in? I jumped out of bed, grabbed my bat, and sprinted towards the seance room.

Looking through the doorway to the seance room I saw a tall silhouette, picking up fragments of glass. I turned the light on while raising my bat ready to hit this thieving motherfucker.

"Dad?"

There stood my dad looming above pieces of broken glass sprawled out on the mahogany wood floor. "Dad, did you break my crystal ball?" He turned towards me, his green eyes expressing his worry clearly. "Sorry, sweetie I was trying to grab my new card deck."

I raised my brow in suspicion, "Why did you have the light off?" He ran his fingers down his brown, graying, curly locks. "I didn't want to bother you. I'll buy you a new one in the morning."

"Dad, I can just go get a new one in the marketplace right now while you clean. Our earliest customers' appointments are at 5:00 am, you know neither of us is going to wake up earlier than 4:30 am." It seemed he understood that I had a point.

"Fine, just don't talk to any strangers, have your pepper spray on you at all times, and come home quickly." I mentally fist-pumped the air. If I'm quick enough I can also visit Meidri and Simeon at Ale n' Eats. I placed my wooden bat on the door frame heading towards my dad.

I hugged him tightly, "Thanks, I'll be back in a few!" Before he could even say bye to me I was out the door.

I stood outside the large building of 'Wizards of Divination.' My favorite Divination store in the primarily populated city of brothels and taverns, Legillia, Etoile. I pushed open the large dark oak door and headed straight to the crystal ball section.
